The best damn safe around
I am not exactly sure how I would explain a gun safe in my car to family and friends. I just practice common sense safety. Before I go out, I stop at my office, take everything out of my pockets except the money I am willing to spend and my driver's license. I leave my wallet and the rest of the things in my desk drawer. Sometimes I might have a little extra money around but it's tucked away where no one is going to find it readily. For me, the gun safe idea is a bit of overkill (pun intended).
Blue.
Well, it sounds to me like you already have the best safe around. Kudos to you man. Everytime I read your reports, I always say to myself. " that's one lucky bastard" with space you can use that close to the loop. As far as explanations go. With all of the car break in's that have been going on in all of the towns surrounding Waterbury, new Britain, Hartford, Meriden, etc. There really isn't much to explain. It's pretty self explanatory when you put it in that perspective. If people see it. Just say it's a lock box or something if the word gun can be triggering to family and friends.

Certainly not funny for the girl
I had a girl once put a blade to my neck. If a girl is crazy enough to steal pocket change, she's crazy enough to hurt you if she feels trapped. Another girl would not get out of the car. I had to drive to the police station. Remember Drug addicted girls don't think rationally.
Don't mean to sound preachy but it's not a risk free hobby.
Later,
Vegas.
I was thinking the same thing. In that situation, a girl is likely to freak out thinking she's being kidnapped by some psychopath and then try to stab her way out of the car.

The first thing I thought of, in addition to your personal safety, is she will likely damage your car. The ways cars are built now, interior handles are so flimsy she would likely break it off by tugging on it without a lot of effort. Then you're stuck with her! She would also kick your dash. I would also never bring them to my office and leave a record in her mind of where I work.
