Seriously, what we have now may suck due to the draconian laws but back then. Well, it truly sucked. There was no Internet so getting information about who does what, whether they are rip-offs or whatever was near impossible. Sure, there was word of mouth, and a few magazines but for the most part those of us around back then took a LOT of chances. And mid-1980's was the height of the AIDS / HIV scare so you had that thrown in the mix, too. Back then there was so much unknown about the disease, and a lot of misinformation was being spread around. And many of the escorts I met back then had never even heard of AIDS.

Even besides all of that, people have to stop being so scared about a world without Eros and Switter. We love to bring up these review sites and forums like this as if they do anything. As I'm talking as of now, months ago I think Eros stopped allowing providers to post their website links in their Eros ads. I'm not 100 percent sure but I think they did the same for their social media pages also.

So now it's more likely to get providers to see you without a reference. The whole reference thing is silly though because it's 2019 and anybody can change numbers and identities at will. I always cringed how both providers and clients in this city act like it's so dangerous when it's the safest city to hobby. The stories may not make the papers, but if you have friends in law enforcement, or the hobby (and I do) you do hear the stories. NYPD makes sweeps of the areas were streetwalkers are prevalent at least once a month.

Frankly, I don't see what difference it makes not to have a website in the ad. It's easy enough to find the websites and Eros isn't fooling anybody.

Those escorts that just put that in their ads because someone told them to, or to scare away a certain "type" of client, are still not going to care. It's no different now than it was a year ago, or 5 years ago, or 10 years ago. The escorts who care still demand references.

And if you change your "identity" then you're not going to be able to get references. If I suddenly changed my identity to something else, then none of the escorts who know me as "Mr French" are going to be able to give me a reference as the new identity and those escorts and agencies that demand a reference aren't going to do business with me. For those that have my real name (and there are damned few of those) then I'm not going to be able to change my identity because changing one's real information in this day and age, in a post 9/11 era is damned near impossible unless you're in witness protection.

And when cops are the ones running the brothel or escort service, it's even harder to change your number or identity and get away with it. Even so, I still hear stories from both guys and escorts about being robbed.

Back in the 80's I got friendly with the madam of a brothel. I was out of work for about a year and I used to go over there after job hunting for the day and hang out. I'd play Monopoly and other games with the girls in the back room, between clients. I got to know the girls, the bouncers, and some of the "secret" things that most guys never see like the hidden panic buttons in the rooms. It may be a different world now than it was in the 80's but I'm willing to bet the rooms still have panic buttons, as well as all the other things I saw and know about. They might look different, and function different but I'll bet they are still there.
