In four years drumpf couldn't get the KS pipeline built and if not cancelled, would be a whopping 8% complete today. Guess that would lower gas prices back to pre-pandemic levels right? Or I suppose we can forget about the fact that gas production and prices plummeted during COVID because no one was driving, and subsequently we are suffering from the same logistics problems that are driving inflation everywhere.

I'm not saying Biden hasn't made poor choices or done a good job of managing and articulating what's going on, but to simply say this was some sort of "plan" or "design" is simple minded and frankly, fucking stupid.

Joe and the green wave didn't do the math. Now we are stuck without refining capacity and our entire economy is based on trucks that deliver our desperately needed consumer products using diesel fuel. A complete clusterfuck. The electric trucks on the "drawing board" go about 100 miles on a charge so for the moment we are quite reliant on fossil fuels. Yes, Old Joe has demonized big oil and it is part of the reason we have our current mess. For a look at the future, see how their doing in Europe on their green conversion. Gasoline is near double what we pay in the US and Germany announced in the past week that they will need to restart some mothballed coal fired power plants or they will be in the dark. Joe's strategy is what we used to call ready, fire, aim in my industry otherwise known as GWOP (goal without a plan). A quick way to be shown the exit in the private sector.

Keystone pipeline wasn't cancelled. It's been operational since 2014 and ships almost a million barrels of oil a day from Canada to Texas. The oil is then refined and shipped out of the US. Virtually none of it stays in the IS in any form, including gasoline. The pipeline and all oil and products is owned by Transcanada. A CANADIAN oil company. BTW for future reference, it was the proposed Keystone XL pipeline that was cancelled. A new piece of pipeline that took the "kink" out of keystone by pipeline through native tribal lands and national parks. All for more profit for a CANADIAN oil company.

You know that energy independent does mean we ONLY use US oil right? Right?

The "regulatory" changes that make it unprofitable. Tell that to the regional and multinational oil companies that are ramping up drilling, pumping and refining across the US and in the gulf.

Refineries are not being built here in the US, and the Chevron CEO quoted above is not alone in saying this. That's not to say they might not increase capacity in other ways (more efficiently using the existing refineries, repurposing, etc.), as this is in their financial interest and doesn't require long-cycle investments. But JMAbacus is right, no CEO in their right mind is going to risk capital in this kind of environment, not to mention the risk of losing their job due to pressures being exerted to deploy investments in "Green" initiatives, and disincentives for petro. Take a look at what happend to Exxon CEO and BoD if you doubt that. About 1/3 of recent refinery capacity loss is due to conversion to biofuels.

Regarding the pipeline only benefitting a Canadian company, that's either purposefully extremely misleading, or extremely simple-minded thinking. US oil companies would clearly benefit from this, and clearly would have increased their investments in refineries here (benefitting US workers, as well as US companies' profits) had a clear message not been sent that future supplies here were going to be limited at the whim of politicians and not based on the free market, and initiatives put in place to tax and penalize investments to the point where it wasn't profitable. This doesn't just include the pipeline, but leases and drilling permits as well. This isn't a new message, as Obama also "killed" the Keystone XL pipeline. Trump resurrected it, and Biden killed it again. With these kind of mixed messages, the CEOs have no clear vision and no reason to think they can risk long-term capital.

Regardless of where the oil from that pipeline went, it definitely would have impacted markets worldwide. As an example, you think China and India haven't benefitted from the oil embargo placed on Russia? Clearly you don't understand global markets and supply and demand.

Pipeline aside- we were a net exporter and energy independent prior to this administration and its policies. Objectively speaking, it's clear where the fault lies. But true to form, this administration ignores all the facts and puts their spin on it, and the gullible fools lap it up. I'm sure you believe in the "Putin price hike".
