The manager, well HE spoke with a difficult accent assuring me 'we' are ready for you. This gave me great solace since the 'we' implied he is not the hands-on type.

The parking lot was mostly empty so Jeeves pulled right up to front door and dropped me off. Once safely past the Buddha statue the dude at the cash register pointed to the price list sign and up sold me to an hour of relaxing rliss for $35 which seems reasonable, so far.

Off we go to a private room with four solid walls, a curtain for the door and they must have run out of lumber building the damn place because the walls stopped about six inched short of the ceiling and no, that is not how I measured it. I hung my toque on the hook, folding my blazer with care on the chair and removed most everything else except the non religious under garment protecting my thinking brain from chaffing. Came as a big surprise to me a couple of years ago to find out that these central LA Basin Thai providers experience LE harassment with some regularity while the shops remain open. There are signs that they are holding back their favors for new customers for the time being or at least being specially cautious. Two guys who went to Spa D'Beverly on my personal recommendation told me afterward that they got shut out. I hear of that happening once in 3 years not twice in close proximity. I was there last Saturday and notice the office walls are now lined with framed licenses and other documents showing legal compliance with professional qualifications. Seems to be more licenses on the wall then the total number of providers they employ and my personal ATF there never even got her own massage education off the ground after she was ripped off by the first massage school she enrolled in. So games being played which they never felt the need to play in the past. Also noticed for the first time that they were placing towels on the massage tables as every other establishment does but SB never did. Thus making SB the only place I go to that basically invites you to lie down on the table "undraped" which is in itself a violation of the law. Now the towels are there.

It could be the owner just signed on with a "caution consultant" who advised him how to present a more legit look. But considering the recent string of unhappy endings, It looks like its gone further than just appearances. I will get to what's actually happening soon enough as the contacts I have there will tell me the truth. Meant to ask last Saturday when I dropped in to see the ATF. For the time being I would not recommend Spa or even the other Thai spots in the immediate area for first timers unless you can walk away happy from an unhappy ending.
