I have been mongering since 1995, and during that time, I usually have several girls I see regularly, and usually long term. None ever blamed me, (one asked if it was possible), but all of them were obviously BBing other guys or boyfriends and ended up pregnant. It stands to reason that had I not had a vasectomy, I would have knocked up one of them sooner or later. That was 3-1/2 years ago, and I saw her today. Bare of course.
My vasectomy was the best thing I ever did, and have never regretted it. I don't think I would be comfortable BBing most these gals if I wasn't clipped. I sure wouldn't do it, if they could find their way back to me, and most likely they could unless it was a hit and gone type of BB encounter. Mine tend to be regular long term things, at an apartment I have, so that wouldn't work for me.
So to answer your question, you absolutely can not rely on them being on birth control as many are not.

Every girl is different. However, most girls aren't dumb enough to let me bareback them if they knew there was a serious risk of them getting pregnant. Either they're on birth control, had their tubes tied, or insist on taking the 'morning after' pill. I've been doing this for at least 6 years and had two scares.
A couple of years ago a girl I had seen texted me saying she missed her period. Stress like hell for the next few days. She then got a negative pregnancy test.
The second scare was actually this past summer. I saw a pornstar who was known as being a safe sex advocate (funny how that works) bareback and came inside her twice. She was on birth control. However, after the session she just casually mentioned that she's "extremely fertile", and once got pregnant while on birth control, AND the guy was wearing a condom most of the time. She also turned out not to be pregnant.
I know what you're thinking. It's all so unnecessary, the stress especially. But sometimes, it just feels so damn good in there that you can't help but bust inside. However, like I said, I seriously am considering a vasectomy. That way, I could also prove that I'm sterile to any girl who potentially (had this happen to me once) lies to me a few weeks after our meeting saying that they're pregnant and need me to send them abortion money. She was never pregnant.
