Where do you guys go for testing?
I would like to be tested and this caught my eye.
15. Get yourself tested regularly and anonymously at a free clinic.
Where are the free clinics? If not free, what's a good one to go to- maybe Planned Parenthood? Thanks for your help and advice guys.

When I schedule an appointment, I treat it the same as a business obligation. If I am going to be late, I call. If I have trouble finding a place, I call. In other words, I treat the woman with respect. The question is -- why don't girls do the same thing?

I've had that same thing happen to me, multiple times the last two weeks. Now I understand if a provider is scared of their abusive uncle, but why pick up the damn phone and make the appointment, if they are worried about it? Why even put your phone number on the internet? This definately is a disturbing trend.

Any county health Dept. will test you either for free or on a sliding scale depending on your income. It is anonymous you'll get results via an assigned number--VS
I called a girl whom I had an appointment to tell her way ahead of time I won't be able to make it. I got a bad attitude and she hung up instead of thanking me. Do you think I'll reschedule with her!
I think you did the gentleman thing and actually used some etiquette. I would definitely take her off the do not call list.
Why didn't you say who she was so we all can think twice before calling her.

Since my office is actually close to the County Health Department in my area you might want to get there early. I see people all over the place during the day. Otherwise you will be waiting alot longer than you want to. Since the Health Departments handle so many things they seem to back fill with people quickly.

Just wanted to add some valuable information about STD testing in this thread. I was making some calls and found that the Orange County Health Department
does not test for certain STD's- mainly Herpes and HPV are overlooked. They do however test for syphilis, gonorrhea, chlamydia, and HIV.
Many people carrying these infections and diseases are asymptomatic, meaning showing no signs, so it's important in my opinion to get tested for everything that you might be exposed to so stay safe out there.

I agree that this info needs to get out there to those that don't already know it. Everyone already knows that covers greatly REDUCE the risk of infection, but it's not 100%. Remember that. HSV (Herpes) and HPV (genital warts) are not tested for, because you need to have symptoms to properly diagnose it. You can get a blood test for HSV, and it will tell you whether or not you have HSV1 (cold sore) or HSV2 (genital). The only realy way to test for HPV is to take a tissue scraping of the wart itself.
As for the others, definately go get tested. Nowadays, you don't even need to get the cutip treatment in the pecker. Just a urine sam[ly and a couple small tubes of blood and your on your way.

I've used Planned Parenthood for STD testing. It can feel a little awkward sitting in a roomful of teenage girls that are most likely there to get abortions. YIKES! The wait can be long to get an appointment and in the waiting area. Otherwise a good experience compared to a visit to the local free government run clinic (they didn't want to test me because of lack of funds) or the doctor's office (can be judgmental).

A doctor's office should never be judgemental. If you are getting that vibe, then it's time to get a new doctor. Maybe the charge nurse at the front desk may look at you funny (if you tell them why your really there.) Just tel her that it is a personal matter. That should suffice. Remember... She has seen it all, and probably already knows, but it somehow makes YOU feel more comfortable by not saying you want an STD check up. I suggest your regular physician if your single. The reason for that is...
Doctors have taken an oath for privacy. They cannot givee out your personal information to anyone. Not even your spouse, however, they can call your spouse and say "You have been identified as someone who has potentially been infected with an STD. You should really come in and get seen." Obviously, if she has only had one sex partner, then she knows who the doctor is talking about. Obviously, if you do show positive test results, you would want your significant other to get tested and treated, but you may want the opportunity to break the news in your own way. Plus, there are ways for her to get treatment without her knowing that are kind of shady, but can be done nonetheless. I can neither confirm nor deny that I know of these types of practices, but will screen all questions from interested parties via PM. This will only work for certain cases, so to be safe, it would be better to break the news gently. There are proven suggested ways to break the news also. Your health care provider can talk to you about them. They go something like, "I love you, and care about you enough, to be honest and tell you I made a mistake and want you to get tested because I have (insert infection here)." Sure, it won't go smoothly, but you're pretty much screwed anyways. Just wrap it up, and you'll be fine 99.9% of the time.
I've spent some time reading a lot of the posts on this and other threads, and I want to thank you guys for sharing so much info. I'm basically a newbie to the hobby and, although I've been on the sidelines, it's been encouraging to learn that there is a safe and healthy community with curiosity like me.
I am looking for advice on the best way to start. I am a bit paranoid about jumping in and calling CL ads after reading about some of the LE stings, and I don't think MPs are my cup of tea, and I definitely am too much of a rookie to go cruising for a SW at this point. I've read up on some of the well-reviewed girls that you all have recommended, and I am tempted to start there but I am concerned that it will be hard for a newbie to get a booking with someone popular if you vets are hogging up all the time. Also, with no references yet, I am not sure how to solve the chicken & egg problem of convincing the first girl that I am a safe friendly guy. Who do you guys think would be a nice girl to help this rookie get his wings?

Tell her your situation, it's normal to be nervous in your first conversation,don't ask any questions, just make an appointment, do what she requests and you will be taken to a safe environment, don't get spooked by anything your mind might be creating, let her lead the way and when you have had the experience P.M. me and if I was wrong about anything I'll personally refund your donation. I have had a series of long-term girlfriends so I am not a newbie in that sense (still, not 1/100th of the experience of you guys haha) and I've read a lot of FAQs to get comfortable what to do / what not to do.
