I know a friend that lives in that complex. It is one of the quitest neighborhoods that I have seen.
You know, alot of this goes back on to the operators of this establishment. They simply didn't choose a location where something like this would get by, like the lampson location. Not to mention, Yorba Linda/Brea are smaller cities and have resources to put something like this to an end very quickly. As we have all seen.
Harbor was a ghost town Friday night. Is it the cold or the heat keeping the girls away?

Just remember, the cops are following orders... Politicians love juicy things like prostitution stings because the results are more visible than catching murderers... Also, as long as the arrestees pay the fine and go away the government makes money. We have to fight back LEGALLY to get these laws repealed.

A bit off topic for the general discussion here but has anyone had any luck with hooking up on the Casual Encounters section on CL. I've tried a couple of times, first one emailed the day we were supposed to meet saying she got back with her boyfriend, even worse the latest said to call her right before we meet and was talking about her service. Ends up I host (rent a hotel) and pay more than full service for a masssage from a 47 year old. Anyway wanted to find out if anyone had better luck hooking up from there or is it a waste of time. That is a tough one for a married guy, unless his wife is very open... or he can convince her it just a POLITICAL issue (i.e. those who support legalization of drugs and don't use them).
As far as legal strategies, first look at the advantages (other than being able to get laid at will):
Believe it or not, most feminists SUPPORT legalization. It is not that they want to let us guys get laid, but they feel that as long as prostitution is illegal, sex slavery will continue. Whereas if prostitution were to be legal, that would make prostitutes into legitimate business women, empowering them to make their own decisions.
For example, if a prostitute is raped by a guy, or attacked by her pimp, chances are she will not go to the police... and if she does go the the police, she may get more harassment for them. HOWEVER, if she is attacked as a LEGITIMATE business person, she WILL report attacks, and the police will have to respond the same way they would to any other legitimate business. Face it, it will be safer for the provider and the client if everything is legal.
The above example just mentioned the advantage to the provider, now look at the advantage to the public:
1. First and formost, it will greatly reduce or ELIMINATE the crime resulting from prostitution. Just as the prostitute can contact the police if she is robbed, so can the client.
2. Rather than wasting LE resources on catching two consenting adults who are not bothering anyone else, our police and courts can do what they were originally intended to do: CATCH BAD GUYS! Keep in mind, governments can still say you can't do the act in your car, on a public street.
3. With prostitution legalized, the providers will be licensed, pay taxes and, just like any other business that can affect public health, they must comply with health regulations (i.e. use condoms, get regular STD tests)... This will greatly reduce STDs, and allow the government to MAKE money, instead of wasting it (i.e. expensive sting operations).
Cities should still be able to limit/restrict public activity (streetwalkers) to a certain area, or require that all activity be at a discreet location (i.e. personal ads).
Now that explains the business, LE and financial aspect. What grounds do we use to demand legalization? TWO CONSENTING ADULTS HAVE THE RIGHT TO DO WHAT THEY WANT WITH THEIR BODIES, PROVIDING THEY DO NOT VIOLATE THE RIGHTS OF ANOTHER... PERIOD!
It is your money, what right does the government have to tell how to spend it (now I am preaching to the choir)... You can legally go to a bar, meet a girl and FUCK HER BRAINS OUT without ever even knowing her name or seeing her again. Why does it become illegal if you pay her? If you meet the same girl and take her to a fancy restaurant, spend $200 (or more) on the meal and drinks and you get laid, is that prostitution?
I've been to EVERY continent on Earth (except Antartica) and went to many countries that legalized prostitution. They do not have the problems that we have with it. Most people look at us (Americans) and see us as absurdly prude, Victorian, Hypocrites (for the reasons that I mentioned above).
How does that sound so far? Now let's look at the strategies:
1. If you are arrested and are willing to take a stand, fight the charges based on your civil rights, i.e. life, liberty and PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS (it would be even better if the girl's name was Hapiness!). This alone will have an effect, it will cost cities more money.
2. If you are on Jury Duty on a prostitution case you have the right to vote Not Guilty based on the LAW being unjust (do a web search with the key words "Jury nullification of the law" or see [url]http://www.friesian.com/nullif.htm)[/url].
3. IF you are a good and persuasive writer, write to your elected officials to change the law on all levels. Use the practical point of view (reducing crime, more money for government, reduce burden on LE, etc.) as well as the civil rights argument. DO THIS ONLY IF YOU CAN WRITE A PURSUASIVE, LOGICAL ARGUMENT!
Start voting for Libetarian candidates for local and state level to strengthen the Libertarian party.
Something has too be done, and legal action is the best way.

You are not ranting at all. You sound more like a serious law guy than a plane guy. In fact, I very much enjoy your brainstorm of these legal strategies. Like you, I am pissed off at the hypocrisy of local elected governments and the incompetence and disservice of local law enforcements.
As far as strategies, it may be too much and too difficult to take on state-level legislation at this early stage. There are many obscure state and municipal laws that nobody bothers to prosecute. The effort should be focused at municipal level such that local governments dont direct their cops to investigate and enforce anti-prostitution laws. That would be far easier to accomplish. When laws are ignored, they can be changed more easily.
I agree with your strategies, but would add the followings:
1. Fight all or most prostitution charges. Enlist a few liberal attorneys and form an association of mongers/providers who would pay an insurance fee to have all prostitution charges fought and appealed to frustrate prosecution. I hope you guys know a few capable defense attorneys who are also prolific mongers.
2. Lobby everyone not to convict prostitution defendants, unless there are violence, exploitation or gross indiscretion.
3. Lobby the liberal press to report on the positive benefits of legalized prostitution and the crimes, diseases, abuses and exploitation created by anti-prostitution laws. Believe me the press can write much better than we can. They also have lots more clout, credibility and can reach much bigger audiences to put heavy pressure on the government.
4. Confront local governments with their failures to prevent and prosecute violent crimes vs. prostitution.
5. Demand city councils to stop expending any resources into investigation, entrapment and prosecution of all discreet sexual activities. You can call anonymously, write letters, or hire private investigators to dig up dirt, or set up your councilmen in their sexual indiscretions.
Those are some of my quick thoughts.
While OC cops are busy going around busting johns and prostitutes, Sheriff Mike Carona has been sued by a number of women for sexual harassment. His lieutenant Don Haidle had to resign because of publicity surrounding his son's conviction of gang rape of a then 16-year-old girl. The kid and his dumb friends are looking at 10-20 years in prison. It probably would not have happened if prostitution were legalized and properly controlled.

As much as I support all efforts to legalize our hobby, as a lawyer I think that the strategies calculated to turn the tide based on constitutional challenges is both wrong headed and a depletion of scarce resources. As a constitutional matter, the privacy theories that support the contraception and abortion decisions have never been extended, as far as I know, to prostitution. The reason is that the state's police power is thought to legitmately extend to activities where it is likely that there is other collateral consequences to the private behavior that extends beyond the participants. No ill effect to other flows from the sales of birth control pills; however, there is little doubt that prostitution can have collateral effects (i.e., street walkers parading near residential neighborhoods, the related sale of drugs to addicts, etc.). While one could legitimately argue that these adverse effects of prostitution stem largely from its illegal status, that is a matter of political policy, not constitution principle.
Having said that, the political approach is where all of the energy should be directed, with the recognition that with the ascendancy of the religious right, it is a very tough battle. The Dutch and German models are probably the best for the US to emulate, and those are the ones we should politically support. It will be next to impossible, however, to find political candidates to get on board with this since the culture isn't yet behind it. Mongers should try to move the culture, in part by stressing the libertarian arguments raised here before, but perhaps the more effective approach would be to stress that the victims of prostitution are actually the providers themselves, in an environment where the hobby is illegal. That approach would likely stimulate the interest of more liberals, who with conservative libertarians (and many mongers are) might move the culture enough to prompt some political action.
As much as I dislike his work, a capable propagandist, like Michael Moore, might just be the person who could make a film about the plight of prostitutes, and perhaps move things in the the right direction.
But don't waste a penny on lawyers for the constitutional approach. It is a complete non-starter.
Mexico is relatively immune to the accusation of allowing prostitution because, technically, prostitution is illegal throughout Mexico. However, Mexico has zones of tolerance, i.e. 3-4 square block areas in major towns, where the laws of prostitution are NOT enforced. A novel idea, huh?
In the USA, gambling was illegal in the 49 states save Nevada. Eventually, other areas got the idea that to give Nevada a sole distributorship on such a lucrative activity was just plain stupid economics. Thus first Atlantic City in New Jersey, then Detroit in Michigan got into the casino gambling business.
Even in California, limited legalized gambling arose in Gardena and Bell Gardens (I'm probably omitting some other cities too) where poker and blackjack could be played. Then the Indians decided it was profitable business to cater to the gambling fever. The Indians sovereign status, which made it virtually impossible for state/federal LE to squash gambling activity, the ability for Indians to do this on their own lands is intriguing, yes?
Perhaps the best approach to get prostitution going on in the USA is ... to not try to legalize it (too hard). Instead leave the laws on the books, but not enforce them.
Remember during the hippie era communities like Ann Arbor, MI and Berkeley in CA had some ridiculous penalty for pot possession ... a $5 fine (he-he-he).
In Detroit, hookers used to get run through Traffic Court in the 1960's and given an insulting $10 fine and admonished to not do it again (yeah, right!).
The smart approach, IMHO, is to find a hard-up city that needs money and the citizenry is okay with a few buildings that cater to adult activity, and let that city allow vice to occur without a stiff penalty (if enforced at all).
Hell, in Laguna Hills and Seal Beach, there are "senior citizens only" living communities that don't have to deal with children issues (since everybody is 55yrs or older) like providing schools. Maybe something could be done along the same lines so that a targeted-for-prostitution city doesn't have to deal with the valid criticism of "what about the children".

Sup' people! I'm surprised there has'nt been more talk about the increased SW activity in OC. I had to pick someone up from the airport early this morning and I decided to make a quick run down Harbor beforehand. At aout 3:30 am I saw 2 decent BSW's, 1 excellent LSW and a very nice WSW. Some dude beat me to the LSW and I did'nt have much time left so I bailed. It was'nt too long ago that you could cruise harbor for an hour and not see shit. I hope you guys are having fun out there!
