The recent DUI / arrest isn't necessarily a big deal (I was once with a SB who had a felony conviction but several years before). But that added to the asking for money and then pressing the issue, that's the sign of someone looking to just use you. Occam's Razor applies -- the simplest explanation is most often the right one.
