There is a lot of good photo editing software being offered on the internet for free. I cannot recommend any because I have never had the need to use any of them. There is also a lot of software that is available as bundled software that is given away with the purchase of digital equipment. If you buy a camera, most likely software will come with it.
(Side note: Be careful trying to upgrade a bootleg vision of Photoshop CS if you do not have the proper serial numbers. The upgrade requires the serial number of the original product. Also, FYI, neither Photoshop 5. 5 or Photoshop 6. 0 will upgrade to the CS versions.)
