If you have Insurance you can have it done through your primary care physician. As someone who hasn't had insurance since 2015 planned parenthood is the way to go. They don't charge too much and they'll charge less based on income. I used a check where I didn't make much and pay 30 something. The price can be more or less depending on the level of testing you want. Planned Parenthood can also help you get medicine affordably if you do have anything.
As for the process most STD's can be found in a piss test. Just pee in a cup and you're done. HIV is tested for by drawing blood. It doesn't take long to get your results back just a few days. Even if you aren't experiencing symptoms it's a good idea to get checked every now and then. Some people never show symptoms but are carriers who can spread it. Also most STD's are curable but if you ignore symptoms and put off treatment they can cause major health issues.
