You can find a hole-in-the-wall eatery serving food that will blow away what you might be served at a much more expensive restaurant.

Providers in the DMV tend to charge higher prices because that's what our local market conditions will bear. But, when you consider that some of those same providers return home (or travel) to other parts of the country where they charge significantly less, it becomes apparent that the price changes independently of the quality.

All a prudent monger can do is to be diligent with homework and focus on finding providers who give good value for $. The problem with being flush with cash is that the ability to afford more expensive providers offers what appears to be a shortcut to finding quality because it's easy and seductive (although mistaken) to assume that any provider charging $350+ must be GFE.

But my main point in posting is to push back a little about the hobby being "fickle. " IMHO, it's really not. Rather it's the same today as it has always been and will probably always continue to be. Prices are driven by supply and demand and are not directly correlated with the level of service / quality received.

And that's the beauty of this forum and resources like the oThER site. Providers are entitled to use all their marketing skills to get mongers to pay more $$$ but those same mongers have the ability and the tools and intel needed to cut through the hype and find the real gems.

After throrough research has been done. We jump at the chance to have a session. Our monger senses and rules help guide us thru good and bad experiences. Hopefully our seniority isn't wasted and we get the best service available for a good price.

As you note, the real gems usually aren't the smoking hot girls, but the ones who look like ordinary girls who may have hit hard times (or are feeding a habit, as is unfortunately so common). The ones who are really hot know it, and usually think they're doing you a favor by letting you touch them. The ones who know they're only a 5 or 6 often try harder, and appreciate attention and being treated nicely.

The phone interview is a big part of my decision process too. If the first thing out of her mouth is "what time did you want your appointment," it's a good bet she's going to run things like a business. If she uses the word "baby" in every sentence, count on hearing "come for me, baby" two minutes after you start. Friendly, conversant, even chatty are good signs.

Ask a few questions without getting graphic, and see if she answers or keeps pushing for an appointment time. You have to rely on your own senses here of when someone seems friendly.

Lazy mongers will often lurk and try to mooch off of what others post, but they'll always be feeding on the scraps. Some will outright ask for handouts and freebies from those successful mongers who take the time and put in the hard work of doing researching, visiting the providers, and (of course) spending their hard-earned dollars. I have a lot of contempt for these sorts, whose behavior and posts will eventually reveal them for whom they are. (However, don't confuse bottom feeders with those who are new to the game or who don't have a ton of resources to pursue the hobby.).

Participation, to the extent that you're able, is imperative in the USASG. Whether your experience is good, bad, fugly, or indifferent, do your best to [U]post a review[/U].

Getting back to Bunker's point, though: There is [U]already[/U] a ton of intel available in the past posts, still valid even after a few years or more. And, the techniques seldom go out-of-date. As you become more experienced, you'll develop your own tools and methods, like Bunker already has. And, BTW, there are some methods that Bunker will not (and should not) reveal, since doing so would diminish [U]his[/U] ability to find gems. If anyone wants to consistently find gems, the best way to do so is to refine your own methods. But, more than anything else, homework and research are the keys. Well, surprise surprise it did not work. What works is homework. Use the tools:

There are about a dozen other techniques. Usually, you can find out enough about a provider in 15 minutes to determine whether to take the plunge. Then, she may not answer! D'oh! Lather rinse and repeat until you've vetted enough potential providers to make sure you have a plan a through d before you leave the house. Chances are 2:5 will flake. The other 3 may not be the top of your list but at least they answer the phone and will show up when you schedule the appointment. The whole thing is a crapshoot.
