Too much sex overpowers the brains ability to process the extended release of Dopamine. So the brain shuts down the production and release of Dopamine, and soon changes how your brain regulates pleasure.
At some point, new neural pathways are created that tell that brain that sex is the primary behavior for pleasure to the exclusion of all else. This has been a terrible, unstoppable habit / addiction for me for the past ten years. I once banged over 400 different women in a 10 month period, and as some point it completely stopped being pleasurable. It was something that I did by rote, and it filtered just enough Dopamine to keep me somewhat level. Though I'm still a mess.
My case is an extreme example, but there are a lot of guys out there like me who swear every week that they're done with this hobby, and a few days later were back in the sack with an Asian hooker. My advice is to tone it down. Don't do it more than a couple times a week and you can probably enjoy a long career as a casual hobbyist. Having been an addict my entire life to multiple things, I know that there are multiple ways this can end up. Lucky for me as the years wore on, and after 4 years in various programs something just changed in my body chemistry and thinking. Behavior modification is the first step to recovery. But you cant do it alone.
I am now what the people in these programs call the impossible (and a threat to their orthodoxy). And so I stopped going to the meetings, as I was not interested in their abstinence only and holier than thou approach any more. Sometimes I still go off the deep end, but with the coping skills I learned in the programs I decided that trying to live a normal life was more in tune with my overall happiness, then worrying I was going to end up dead or in jail. (although have been to the hospital and arrested, both multiple times).
Because boredom doesn't really work too well for me either. Lucky for me one of the things I became addicted to was work. The down side is I can afford almost any addiction. So being able to deal with it became imperative. Not bragging. Just my experience.
But you my friend need to get to a meeting a day. Get a sponsor. And start working some kind of a program. Self help or trying to "control" my addictions never worked for me prior to gaining the knowledge and experience of other ppl just like me. And they are out there. You are far from alone. But you have to take the first step (all by yourself).

Thanks, HG. Appreciate the offer. Our paths are not so different. I've been a part of SAA for over 15 years. Have a sponsor, and have been a sponsor for others, as well. My post had more to do with old wounds when the addiction was raging in me. I'm at peace with it, but my biggest struggle is the inability to be intimate. This form of repetitive hobbyist behavior has changed my responses and when it comes to women, I'm like a Pavlovian dog, which makes it an uphill struggle to connect with a woman emotionally, and I miss that. I'm currently in therapy and hoping to wind down what has been a very long hobby and find satisfaction with one woman who will understand my history and not be appalled or frightened by it.
I will admit that I've had a helluva of a lot of fun with this lifestyle which has made it hard to give up, but also, a good deal of frustration and doldrums that put me down face-first.

But I have the same problem to a lesser degree. So occasionally I find a girl that needs a little help but some how expects that without the sex. In very rare circumstances (like the one I am in now) I will hookup (minus the sex) with a girl like this. I have one living with me now. My "bikini girl". She is sleeping in my bed, she lets me touch her and kiss her all over but not her pussy or mouth, and there is no sex. I don't pay for her except food once a day. I see so many guys married with kids who ignore them and a wife that hates them and they are ten times more depressed than I've ever been. Those guys wish they could fuck one girl a month, let alone 40. Being "normal" does not mean you will be happy. Being fulfilled is what makes you happy, and if you don't believe me, see how happy a child is with an ice cream cone, or a Special Ed type is with life's simple delights.
