When that happens there's no indication on your phone that the tower in functioning in basic mode and usually most people blame the phone (unless they live in the affected area) because everything starts working normally when they move into coverage from another tower.

I just figured there might have been some issue I was unaware of. I do appreciate the info.
I do want to make it clear that I was not complaining about EE nor was I blaming them for the issue. Like I said in the original post, their reviews are far too good for this to be a common problem. I just wanted some advice on if there was any way to fix the situation.
