I support your car-less-ness and am happy to see that someone else is having this issue (dealing with SWs without a car). I ride a motorcycle, so there's no possibility to pick up or go for a car date. The couple of times I picked up on or near 82nd and on Ankeny were on foot. With cheap motels around it isn't too bad. Checked out 82nd from Sandy to Home Depot. Dry; except for the weather. During this time, around 2:30pm, I spotted 3 cops. I heard something last night I'd never heard of before, and I don't know that I'm inclined to investigate until verified.
