It's been awhile since I posted but I have been following all of your exploits with a lot of interest. I wanted to share a situation that happened a couple of weeks ago and I invite your comments. Good hunting.

At least this way, you still have a shot! If there is a next time, then you'll know for certain. But if next time it doesn't work out, walk away.

I concur with Spit. Your observation that she came prepared to uphold her end of the arrangement is the thing to keep in mind. Also, she has two-thirds of the promised sugar still to go, so that will be incentive to her to come back and fulfill the deal. If for some reason it all falls apart, consider the lost sugar as the price of a lesson learned. Next time plan ahead for negative contingencies as much as is possible.
