I think people are taking the word "tip" too literally. For food service, a tip is purely voluntary and is based upon the level of services received. If you receive good service, 15% would be acceptable. If you receive excellent service, 20% or more is not unheard of. But if you receive shitty service or the person is rude or the food is burnt, many times people do not leave a tip at all. I've done it.

In the case of an AMP, the word "tip" is not entirely a tip. Part of it is in exchange for the service and part of it is in response to the level of service (i.e. the tip)

So let's say you get excellent service, you might give a standard "tip". Some may give a little more. On the other hand, if you get shitty service, would it be acceptable to not give a tip? Although I'd bet some here have done it, I think a certain minimum is in order in exchange for the services rendered.

For me, I've set that level at $, even for shitty service. Kind of a minimum wage thing. The rest is a "tip".

I think the reason the word tip is being used is to get away from the "payment for services" stigma. Remember, you are still paying for a service.
