I got hauled in a while back by Highland Park. I was on the Are and swooped a decoy a couple blocks north of 6.

At the arraignment, I pled guilty. The magistrate asked if I commited this offense "on this date" in the City of HP. I told him I believed I was in Detroit and told him where I was. He asked if this was where the proposition or the arrest happened. It was the proposition. He did not ask where the arrest took place but said based on this info, he could not accept a guilty plea. He then set a pretrial date.

So my questions are;.

Can they cross lines like that?

Does it matter where the proposition took place?

Does it matter where the arrest took place?

North of 6 mile, what is considered Highland Park vs. Detroit?

If you scooped a girl for a ride North of 6 that is the city of Detroit. No question. However if you were pulled over in HP by HP LEO that's good as they have no money and most of the time will settle for a fine. Now where this gets interesting is if you were stopped by DPD and you were actually in Highland Park? Now that might get thrown out as they have no jurisdiction there. They did monitor, arrest and hassle people ,walkers and mongers, within Detroit limits. I would think if they observe a felony thay can arrest someone outside of limits.

Best I can tell general rule is police cannot arrest in another district unless hot persuit, in conjunction with state or federal police. Felonies seem to be an exception if they saw it happen.

Does it matter where the proposition / arrest took place? Apparently not especially in governments with the confines of other governments. IE places like Highland Park and Hamtramk. At best you could have argued on the legality and what they could have done to keep it more legal is.

Simply summon the other county police force to finalize said arrest.

I'm assuming they impounded your vehicle? Did they arrest you and take you in or did they just give you a ticket?

What I'm wondering about is how come they refused to accept your guilty plea? Obviously there is more to your story and or they are looking to punish you to the full extent.
