St. Pete seeming to have girls all over the place, I use google earth and based on posted sightings and pick up locations, I put placemarks on the map which resemble push-pins. This is great for seeing patterns and Identifying "strolls". With all the multiple street and avenue names with directional indicators ( north, south, west, east ) it can get confusing at times. This method seems to work well for me who comes from out of town.
Google earth is free and once you get the hang of it, you will see it can be a big help in keeping track of locations. Of course it will also help you with directions to these areas. If your new to mongering in this area or your looking for the shortest route from one stroll to the next, give this a shot.
Some of you have expressed confusion about how to figure out where you are or where you're going in St. Pete. It's actually easy once you understand it, so I'm going to take a stab at explaining the system. Look at the attachment, get out a detailed map, and read this e-mail. I think it will clear things up if you’ll take the time to read this and understand it.
St. Pete is a grid with the starting point being Central Avenue and 1st St. Find this on the map. This point is right in the middle of downtown.
When you are NORTH of Central Avenue all Streets and Avenues are labelled NORTH (or NorthEast).
When you are SOUTH of Central Avenue all streets and avenues are labelled SOUTH (or SouthEast).
STREETS run north and south. There is only ONE of each Street. One 66th St and One 34th St. 34th St N and 34th St S is the same street. The N and S label just indicates whether you are North or South of Central Ave at that point on the street.
OPTIONAL READING: The exception is for streets labelled NE and SE. These are the streets that are EAST of 1st St. To avoid confusion most (if not all) of the NE and SE streets are NAMED streets instead of NUMBERED streets. The vast majority of the grid is WEST of 1st Street so you could forget about the NE and SE addresses if that's confusing to you.
AVENUES run east and west. There are TWO of most Avenues. 5th Ave N and 5th Ave S are two different avenues running east/west through town. 5th Ave N is 5 blocks north of Central and 5th Ave S is 5 blocks south of central.
The numbers are sequential from the starting point of the grid. So to recap...
5th Ave N is 5 blocks north of Central
5th Ave S is 5 blocks south of central
54th Ave N is 54 blocks N of Central
54th Ave S is 54 blocks S of Central
9th St (North or South) is 9 blocks WEST of 1st St. If the signs say 9th St N then you are on 9th St and you are NORTH of Central.
66th St (North or South) is 66 blocks WEST of 1st St. If the signs say 66th St S then you are on 66th St and you are SOUTH of Central.
Any Street labelled NE or SE (such as Beach Drive NE) is EAST of 1st St.
NOTE: A few roads such as Haines Road just flat don’t fit in with the system. Haines Road has an excuse – it runs diagonal through the grid.

Addresses can be easily pinpointed on the grid and it works beautifully.
Odd numbered addresses are on the NORTH side of Avenues or the EAST side of Streets.
Even numbered addresses are on the SOUTH side of Avenues or the WEST side of Streets.
The address tells you precisely where it is on the grid.
Take 1300 1st Ave N for instance (a place I hope none of you end up). The first two numbers of the address “13” indicate the cross street. The last two numbers “00” indicate where on the block the address is.
This address is NORTH of Central Ave.
This address is on 1st Ave N
13 means that it is between 13th St N and 14th St N
00 tells you two things.
00 is right on the corner of 13th St N and 1st Ave N
00 is an even number therefore it’s on the South side of 1st Ave N.
Let’s do a couple more examples (made up addresses).
3205 34th St N.
This address is NORTH of Central Ave.
This address is on 34th St N
32 means that it is between 32nd Ave N and 33rd Ave N
05 tells you two things.
05 is closer to 32nd Ave N than 33rd Ave N but probably not right on the corner.
05 is an odd number and therefore this address is on the EAST side of 34th St N.
2750 34th St S
This address is SOUTH of Central Ave.
This address is on 34th St S
27 means that it is between 27th Ave S and 28th Ave S
50 tells you two things.
50 is right between 27th Ave S and 28th Ave S (the middle of the block)
50 is an even number and therefore this address is on the WEST side of 34th St S
1990 4th St N
This address is NORTH of Central
This address is on 4th St N
19 means that it is between 19th Ave N and 20th Ave N
90 tells you two things.
90 is closer to 20th Ave N than 19th Ave N
90 is an even number and therefore this address is on the WEST side of 4th St N.
