I don't want any of you to get false comfort from the state supreme court's striking down of the civil impound statutes. Mind you, it's nice that the police can't take your car and force you to sue to get it back (in fact, it's completely outrageous that they were ever able to do that). However, this has not been found unconstitutional. Rather, the Courts found that the local impounding statutes for various offenses was preempted by state law on the subject, and that local entities could not pass similar laws that expanded the state law (which does not provide for impounding for prostitution.

The striking down of these local ordinances has absolutely nothing to do with local law enforcement's ability to enforce the relevant penal codes (such as 647 - prostitution, or 653.22 - loitering with the intent ....)

Some the other writers are right on point about why the police so vigorously pursue these things. But don't forget, these vice squads are relics from previous eras, when the police would enforce prohibition, or blue laws, or dancing ordinances, or they would entrap gay men into agreeing to have sex (they used to charge a gay man who agreed to have sex with an undercover cop with 647(a), lewd conduct, which also used to be registerable as a sex offense).

The Chief Parker and Chief Gates mold, which called for overwhelming force as to the most trivial problems, let to the expansion of even these units like vice, and vice is also one of the most sought after units to be in. Chief Bratton, with his broken windows theory, takes this just as far as the previous chiefs, but from a less militaristic viewpoint.

I think that the only thing which will change this focus is our budget crisis. If things get bad enough, maybe there will be a groundswell to change things. Until then, don't hold your breath.

It's not just fish in a barrel, this country has a very strange, almost Victorian view of sex. On the surface, we abhor sexual activities, cry out with indignation at a nipple shown on television, and freak at the idea of young people having sex.

In reality, we're all bonking each other as fast and as often as we can, and with whoever we can do it with. I mean, we live in a country where we'd officially rather stick our fingers in our ears and start singing loudly than listen to the fact that teenagers will have sex, and the responsible thing to do is to educate them on safe sex and how to be responsible.

Prostitution is one of those "morality" issues that gets people pissed and upset. In a country where it's legalized, and regulated, most of the negative social aspects of the trade would go away. However, the idea of paying for sex is morally insulting to our population, which is ironically by and large hypocrites on the issue (taking a woman out to an expensive dinner and buying her stuff so she'll bob your knob is prostitution in my book). I find it amusing that it's morally just to go after prostitution, but it's totally cool to destroy school funding and make it as hard as possible on kids to have a fighting chance, ensuring that some of them *will* sell themselves for sex. I find it even more ironic that some of the biggest family values politicians are the biggest perverted scumbags out there.

If prostitution was legal in the U.S. imagine all the marriages that would fail. The U.S. divorce rate is already between 50% & 70%.

Imagine all the brothels that would open up. Imagine the price wars, like airlines do. If all a man wants is sex, there would be less dates with women who don't put out. If a guy has a long, hard day @ work, he can stop by a bar, have a few beers, then go to a brothel, toss up a chick, & then go home to that nagging,fat slob of a wife, if he has one. Aargh!

America is becoming more and more of a police state. The Powers That Be don't want a thinking educated population -- that makes them hard
to control. Instead they want a bunch of stupid desparate people that they
can lock up in prison. Therefore cut funding for education and beef it
up for prisions and LE.

The "patriot" act makes it much easier to lock people up, and the "gestapo" police seem more than happy to ruin people's lives for trying to get a little pleasure.

America has a higher percentage of people in prison than any other country in the world. If that isn't a sign that the education and LE system is

I don't understand why the police bother providers and hobbyist, when theres murders, drugs and all sorts of other horrible crap going on. LBB has been very active in the afternoon, but not at night. Have cruised the last couple of weekends at night and found nothing on LBB or Fig. The same day I was on LBB in the afternoon and there were plenty of girls out but it is hit and miss. Okay boys, here we go. Started my venture out to the Pig yesterday at around 7:00p.m. I started on the Western track as usual and nothing was out at all. Next, went to the Pig and LE was smoking everywhere. I mean the ladies were there, but scarce and scattered. The hotty gallery in the 60's was non-existent. Took a ride on the Pig Sunday morning around 11. Nothing! Empty track. Very disappointed decided to check LBB. Saw two rather hot BSWs in miniskirts just south of the 91. And. Nothing else!
