Another thing is that officers think the know the laws completely as well as an attorney and will arrest people and let the the sort it out. Even if someone has charges against them dropped, there is still an awful lot of explaining to do to family. I know a person that was wrongfully arrested by some less than ethical LEOs and the whole thing haunted him for a long time even though charges were dismissed.

I'm sure they will take someone into custody and question them trying to get them to cave in to admitting a crime. They have a certain time period they can hold a person for questioning without charges until the either have to charge or let them go. It's been done before. Your only words should be "I want my lawyer". You won't be able to talk your way out of being held if they think they can sweat a confession out of you.
