Them is a decent review site, but fake profiles with reviews can mislead. With the photos in that ad being all over the internet, combined with a phone number with different area code, and only two reviews, I'd say you made the right choice in bailing. My guess is the person on the other end of the line would've asked for a deposit before your arrival, or the number and code on the back of the gift card, and you would've lost contact with them at that point.
