A few years ago I've had that happen to me twice on my personal number. Nothing came from it as far as I can tell. Since then I use TextFree for new ads / girls.

One time I also had my personal number screenshot with a message that was posted to a site for "John's". Now THAT was kinda scary because if I Googled my number, that page came up in the results. But I contacted Google telling them it was fake, etc. And they either removed the site, or buried that result in their search.

Anyway, not sure what to make of the NYPD thing. I think it may be fake. But be careful out there anyway.
