I'm a Manhattan transplant who still refuses to get a car. I live within easy walking distance of my downtown job (and an easy walk to the Block too!). So I don't get to take advantage of the SW scene very often. I've done it when I have to rent a car for some reason, but nothing since moving to Baltimore.

But I decided to check out Wilkens Ave anyway. Took public transit there and got out at Monroe. Went to a nearby bar then strolled around. Lots of locals about. Some sort of party was going on on Monroe and there was a big crowd. Lots of people just sitting on their stoops along Wilkens itself. I'm not a tough guy, but I look like I can take care of myself and I never get any grief in "troublesome" neighborhoods.
