Some months ago I got a DM on a social media site from an unknown account completely unsolicited. I had no idea what it was about and assumed it was someone I knew IRL, etc etc. Pretty quickly it becomes obvious that this is some kind of scam so I cut it off. The account pictures were highly suggestive.
A few more different accounts do the same thing. I decided, out of sheer curiosity to "play it out" on one. I was extra careful in my written comms. For no apparent reason I recalled my uncle LEO and how he loved to go fishing.
After a bit I found out that lo and behold this alleged young woman interested in a good time just so happened to live in the same town as I did (or at least, the town I said I lived in). This was odd because a reverse search on the info for the account showed a slew of ads in all the usual sources you'd expect to see ladies of the time after daylight. From all 50 states with the same photos and contact info.
After a bit I finally got to the part where the scam / fraud dropped and what was it. Send me a deposit to continue.
The moral of this story is. Sending a deposit is a rip-off. Period. End of story. Don't do it. This applies to ANY situation with strangers on the internet without a reputable exchange platform (like eBay) to protect both the parties.
I should add that the scam-artists know what they're doing and how to entice people.
So while from the very beginning of the ordeal, I knew full on it was a scam. I had no intention of being victimized or participating in anything illicit. I just wanted to see exactly what the scam / game was they were playing.
At least 2 or 3 times I was certain the person or bot on the other end of the line would do one of:
- require I make some incriminating statement or agreement.
- Ask for money.
- Bail on the conversation.
Yet they kept going.
At one point they asked if I wanted to come to them or them to come to me. I responded with "I'll come to you, what's the address?
I figured for sure at this point they'd have to trigger a telling move, but shockingly they gave me an actual address. A check on Google showed it was a legitimate address in a residential neighborhood.
This threw me for a complete loop. There was no way this was a legit person with ads in every county of every state.
My thought was that this had to be either a situation where some national group was going to set something up then inform the local boys in blue. Problem with that was I absolutely hadn't agreed to anything I could get in trouble for. There hadn't been any talk of money at all. Or some kind of national brothel system. Which seemed far-fetched.
After backing out, eventually I requested "come to me". At that point I finally triggered the ask for up-front money that I had expected and a "rate" statement. I was invested enough at this point, and felt they'd played well enough that I tried to clearly state that while I'd never pay up-front, if they showed up at the public location I'd stated I'd pay their rate for nothing more than to sit at the bar and drink with me for the time and that the public location satisfied the claimed concern of "safety" for the girl. I would have. Perhaps part of this being the very real concern at this point that I was jerking around some organized criminal enterprise and didn't want any trouble with that either!
Of course, we know that wasn't going to happen and didn't.
My best guess is that this was some very cunning off-shore operation that gave zero fucks in their pursuit of cash.
In hindsight, I think the "how far are you away", "how long until you get here" questions were probably setting up for the pre-pay ask. But that's completely fucked up. The scammer literally put out some random persons house! So some fool falls victim to the scam, pays the pre-pay and then some unsuspecting person gets a potentially angry monger knocking on their door? That's fucking dangerous, but that's the length some of these scammers will go to in order to try to get $20, $40, $50 in a fraudulent manner.

If they tell me they have rules. (Their rules are always prepay for safety or some bs) I tell them I do to. They usually ask me what my rule is and I reply I only deal cash in person. Some argue but most give up.
If they say they need money for gas I tell them I'll meet them at the gas station of their choice, fill up their tank, and give them cash just for showing up. The responses are usually entertaining why they can't.
If they ask my location I reply are you in Dallas? When they say yes I reply well that sucks because I'm in Boston. A few try to say they were in Boston as well but most give up.
A few times I asked for their cashapp or venmo tag. When they give it I reply they better close their account right away because I just sent our convo to my buddy in the FBI. One flipped out on me after that exchange. Most block or stop replying.
Personally I don't think any of them are LE just foreign scammers. The Nigerian prince evolved. Local LE would have a jurisdiction nightmare especially if you are near the MA / NH border and the feds have more important things to work on. If they are doing a sting they want you there in person soliciting.
I have had success with a few utr legit girls. They usually negotiate a little, want cash, and ask for a Pic. I send a doppelganger when confident they are real and get one in return. If it seems off I send them a Pic of some rando from the internet. (Sorry to that dude).
