I wish they would fix that issue on the search. I think most of us are just used to it and deal with it because it's always been like that for over a decade or more.

On this website searching for a name with three or fewer characters doesn't work. However, there is an easy fix which has been used successfully on many of the boards. Somewhere in the post, just repeat the name with one or more of the letter "x" in front of it to make it a four- letter name. For example, if the name is "Zap", put "xZap" somewhere in the post. Now the search will work fine.

I think they may be some misunderstanding. If the name "Kim" was used in the post, searching "xKim" will not find it. If the name "xKim" is used in the post, then searching "xKim" should find it. This is assuming the xKim name has spaces on either side, so the "xKim" I am using here may not work. So you won't find those past posts for Kim with this work-around, but if everyone puts xKim in their posts then I think it should work.
