Maryland requires that the license of the owner and each therapist be prominently displayed, and Baltimore County has laws on the books concerning anyone who provides an unlicensed massage. If you remember, TBC had a framed license holder just inside their door. There is a timeframe that a student needs to complete certification in order to be licensed state by state. There have been girls just off the boat from China, as well as independents working there as long as I can remember. Vivian from California, Lucy from New York, Victoria New York, Lulu- Cleveland. Each Masseuse has to be licensed to work in a spa, similar to hairdressers in a salon. Haven't you ever wondered why a CMT can be claimed in your medical plan, but your AMP can't.
Current MD law dictates 500 plus hrs. of study, plus annual renewal. If you don't believe, read the regs. yourself.
I'm sure that one of the lawyer clientele can shed light on this, satisfying my gut feeling that there are larger forces at hand than we are aware of.
