The main difference between them and the usual "contractors" is the upcharge. Sure, they might repackage the goods to look a little classier, but mongers should stand firm (no pun intended) and think with their other head to keep the cash grabs in check.

The amount of evidence unveiled to this point is overwhelming, and the feds almost certainly have more in reserve. In fact, I doubt it will come to trial because a competent defense lawyer will likely try to reach a plea deal. From that point of view LE will surely count this as a win.

But the world's oldest profession is nothing if not resilient. This isn't the first bust of this kind, and it won't be the last. Providers and mongers will adapt and move forward, as they always have. In that sense, LE has failed and will continue to fail because consensual adults are not going to stop participating in the hobby. For every agency, individual provider, or monger, who drops out of the game, others will take their place. Sex and money are powerful incentives and LE has never been able to do more than scratch the surface.

As for why this particular agency was targeted, who knows? Maybe some info fell into LE's lap and they just ran with it? But, just like getting a traffic ticket when there are others who were going as fast or faster than you, it doesn't work to say "What about the other guy?" as a protest.

The bigger question, for me, is to what extent mongers are going to resist agency demands for their PII. It's my guess that, unfortunately, too many will continue to think with the small head. Which means that it's only a matter of time before we see a similar situation unfold.

The only way to get rid of the requirement for PII is to legalize the industry. Nothing less will suffice because every agency has to protect itself, as well.

I agree that people need to be smart about what PII to give and where you can fake information, but telling people that we can change the industry (or even stop busts) by not giving PII is not realistic or helpful. The busts will happen regardless of PII given or not. This is not a question of thinking with the small head, rather it is about coming to terms with the risk you are willing to live with. If you don't have the skills to buy / photoshop a fake license, spoof an email, or create a fake Linkedin (or pay someone on Fiverr to these things), maybe consider spending some time to learn that first. If you're afraid of the police knocking on your door to out you, then just do what a million other horny guys do and hit up tinder or the bar to find some legal release.
