You can't just put the blame on the cab driver as the doormen are known for scamming guys going to SC's also. I used to drive a cab in Vegas for a few years, and yes we would get a commission for every guy we dropped off at the clubs. In my years of driving during the "strip club wars", the clubs were paying out as much as $100 per guy. Now they are paying around $20 per and not only that the clubs are now required by IRS law to have the drivers fill out tax forms every time they get paid.
Anyway back to the doormen at the hotels. I am 100% confident that your doorman at Harras was not "out of date", he knows what the clubs are paying out. I would say that they also should not to be trusted at all. As you stated in your post, he told you ". The cab won't take you for free unless you have a bunch of guys.", but then offered to talk to the driver for you so you would not have to pay for the fare. I've seen and heard this done plenty of times myself. The doorman my have looked like he was "hooking" you up with a free ride, but more likely he was just taking B. S. With the driver. Why would he do this? Well to get a better tip from you. As you stated you tipped him, and more likely you might have tipped him an extra dollar or 2 more than you originally intended because he "hooked" you up by talking with the driver.
Yes, Vegas is a place to watch out for scams. But it's not only the cab drivers, you have to watch out for the doormen, the valet guys, the limo drivers (which are the biggest scammers, they have deals with the doormen to convince people to take a limo) , the guys working at the SC and even the AMPs and fake MPs. Never take the word of anyone here.

Yes, Vegas is a place to watch out for scams. But it's not only the cab drivers, you have to watch out for the doormen, the valet guys, the limo drivers (which are the biggest scammers, they have deals with the doormen to convince people to take a limo) , the guys working at the SC and even the AMPs and fake MPs. Never take the word of anyone here.

Actually, if you read my whole report, I hooked up for free at the casino with a chick that was visiting as well. It was a great and long night. It was one of those things that you just don't expect to happen. I do appreciate your intel but after that night, I was pretty exhausted from the convention and the sex-a-poloosa. My next trip out there, I think I will definitely get a rental car. You don't have to depend on getting ripped off from a cabbie or driver and since majority people own a GPS (whether on phone or another device) , you can never get lost. Parking is free at every hotel / casino in Las Vegas. Don't have to walk to get somewhere in or outside the strip. You can negotiate prices even lower with CGs and SWs because you can tell them that they don't have to walk to your hotel if there is any walking required. You can hit anywhere outside the strip, like SCs, AMPs, girls that do INCALLS ONLY or whatever anyone feels like going at any time.
I also think that if you get the smallest, cheapest rental car, it could be cheaper than taxi fees (fare + tip) and gas all put together or you might come out even depending on how much you travel in Vegas. If you get trashed at a place, then you would take a taxi, and leave the rental overnight at one of the hotels and not get charged.
It feels like renting a car would be the ideal thing to do for any monger visiting Vegas. Anyone have a difference in opinion?
