This is progress regarding prostitution, but because sex buyers are almost always men it is at the same time discrimination against men. How can two people agreeing to do something jointly be a crime for one but not the other? Is that equal protection of the laws?
This new law in Maine, which reportedly went into effect in October 2023, illustrates the fact that modern America has quietly and clearly declared open season on men, and we have become a female-privilege society. A more important illustration is the fact that women can vote and do everything a man can do -- with the exception of being drafted into the Army. That's for men only.
Yes, this new law in Maine would criminalize a woman who pays a man (or another woman) for sex, but how common is that? I've never heard or read about that happening other than in fiction (like movies).
In this TV report, the Maine legislator who introduced the legislation says women do sex work because they need to earn a living and are therefore forced into sex work and are not doing it of their own free will, which she equates with "trafficking". If that makes sense, then EVERYBODY is being forced and "trafficked" into whatever they do for a living. Women do sex work because it pays better than other jobs. This law, aimed at reducing demand, like laws that criminalize prostitutes, attempts to deprive sex workers of what they have found is their best economic opportunity.
According to the report, South Portland, Maine, police arrested 33 men for solicitation in sting operations last year.
