The height should be around 32 inches to center I would think. The lower the better. A guy can always lower himself to accommodate by bending at the knees but standing up on his toes would not be fun. A 8 inch hole would work. 32"center at 8"=28"bottom-36"top that should fit a guy from 5'6 to 6'0 Some guys might hit balls and some might need to bend the knees.
