I have noticed it more and more with bad comments being deleted. If you spend enough time in the Alligator section, you get a sense of the fakes and avoid them. You get one that only has an email address, that's an easy clue. Most of the out-of-town area codes are fake. For the real ones, it's actually not bad that they keep all the posts alive so you can see when they post, which gives you an idea of when they're likely available, which can save you some time. It would make things a lot easier if all the fields were searchable there, but unfortunately only the headlines and text below that seems to be.
