My very anecdotal observation is that spring and early summertime seems to bring out the most new prospects. Not sure if there's anything at all to that or if its just the obvious reason of nicer weather making everyone more adventurous. Honestly, if you're going to play the time game at all I'd just do it focused on the end of a month. Whether its college or just regular girls, most of them have rent or some sort of bills due the first of each month, so the activity especially for the more quick casual hookups always picks up as you get in the last two weeks of any month. I wouldn't worry so much about joining for a long time. Many of us have commented on a 'hit and run' approach. Sign up for month or maybe two, get as many numbers as you can, and work through the list over the next few months. Unless you have unlimited free time for meet and greets and actual meetups, that should keep you pretty busy. Back when the iOS app used to offer two week discounted memberships, that used to be long enough to at least get a nice queue of prospects with contact info.

If a girl just sends you a number without any communication up front, I wouldn't bother. Probably a hooker or a scam. The other poster suggested googling the number, that will sometimes give you more info. But still, not what I'm looking for on SA anyway.
