What's the current covid environment now in Las Vegas strip area casinos and restaurants?
I think business was returning from covid shutdown, but now this damn variant seems to be a threat.
If you're local or have been there recently, what is it like out on the strip? Busy? Quiet? Do any places have waiting in line to be screened to get in?

Everywhere is short staffed. So the service is slow. Walking on the Strip on the weekend you won't notice a big difference. Masks are mandatory. But you see plenty of idiots walking around mask free inside. There is no screening anywhere except a few questions when you check into a hotel.
I spoke to a nurse acquaintance leading up to my trip, and she stated that the hospitals are 95% occupied. Some places with only 1 or 2 remaining ICU beds. So take that into account as well.

When I see doctors and nurses and other medical experts advising against masks. I will join the idiots who go maskless in crowds of strangers.
As a nurse I can confirm. Unfortunately medical professionals in the valley are burnt the fuck out. You don't get the same hand holding or compassion if you are in the hospital setting, especially with rona, these days. But if you pick it up here it is usually 4 or 5 days before you have symptoms. Plenty of time to take it home to wherever you come from.

Cloth bandanas or the neck dust masks do nothing. Surgical masks most definitely reduce the spread of droplets. While n95's are the gold standard, surgical mask do reduce the spread significantly.

They normally run at about 80% occupency (mostly cardiac cases) but saying that "covid patients are taking up the remaining 20% of ICU beds left over after all the rest are full of massively obese cardiac patients" doesn't generate as many clicks as "there are only 2 ICU beds beds left because of the black death. ".

Its airborne, that's why all covid ICU patients are in negative pressure rooms.

Except we've seen people have long covid issues months and months after exposure vs. A vaccine that has had minimal side effects in 99.9% of the people who have received it.
And what's the big deal with a booster shot? Is that the new thing that the right is pandering around? I get a flu shot for free every year from work. They even pull up right to the office, and I get a sugar cookie to eat on the way back to my desk. Pretty sweet deal.
I get a flu shot every year. I got one last year in early September, and just got mine for this year. It isn't crazy to think that an endemic viral disease might need ongoing immunizations. And it isn't outside the experience people have with medical care these days. The reasons repeated immunizations could be needed for SARS-CoV-2 are different from those for the flu, but most people will consider that 'in the weeds'. We'll have the capacity, and it will just become part of standard medical practice. At one stage, it might have seen we could eradicate this virus, as has been done w / smallpox. In my reading of expert opinions in the scientific press, the opportunity to do this may have been lost. So, we'll have to learn to live with this virus the way we live with others. BTW, the common cold is in the same virus family as SARS-CoV-2 - it is endemic and we learned to live with it.
I recently came across an SB who I thought I could spend a couple of days with. Conversation was great and we seemed to have good rapport. She made an offhand comment that bothered me, I almost left it alone but decided to follow up on it, so I asked her, 'Do you have a problem wearing masks and have you gotten vaccinated?
She responded with, 'If you need someone who is going to wear a mask at all or is vaccinated, then I'm not the one for you! LOL!

Vaccines "work" by causing the body to create target antibodies against a foreign 3 dimensional shape, IE the unique surface proteins of a virus.
These highly specific antibodies, by definition, are also highly random, so in reality your body makes an antibody soup against the virus. All of these antibodies have one thing in common. They attach themselves to the unique 3 D structures of a virus in every conceivable way that also doesn't include structures that are already found in your body.
Next time your body gets infected, these antibody's recognize the sites, and generate an immune system cascade response, killing the infection.
MRNA vaccines trick your body to making 1 specific viral protein, where hopefully that protein will get pushed to the cell wall and stick out.
Immune system sees the "new" protein, and step 2 occurs and soup is made.
The problem with this step, is now antibodies are made that half attach to the foreign protein and half attach to your specific cell wall makeup.
If you are unlucky, one of the soup combos causes your immune system to have partial matches everywhere in your body, and your body tries to kill you.
This is why you see so many random side effects, and also why these side effects aren't 100 % seen in all vaccinated. Your body might attack platelets, so blood clots happen. Your body might attack placental tissue, so spontaneous abortions happen, etc etc.
Now normally, your immune system is pretty good at not accidentally creating antibodies against your own tissues, but here is where it it very very important!
Every time you get a booster shot, you are rolling the dice with creating snake eyes death matches.

The most dangerous thing about this virus is that it affects and infects people differently. I know people who got it, did nothing but were fine in a few days. I know people who were healthy as can be who got it and died. I also know families living in the same household where 6 people were exposed to COVID, 3 got it, 3 did not and of the three 1 became extremely ill, had to be hospitalized, one had serious symptoms but didn't need to go to the hospital, the other had very minor symptoms. All were healthy and pretty much lived the same lifestyle. 2 were twins, only one got it. Bottom line is that you can't go by what Joe Roggin or any other person did because your experience may be drastically different. Right now, we have no clue why among healthy people it varies so much. I'm not willing to gamble with my health on what Joe Roggin or you say. Very simple to me. Can the vaccine kill you? NO. Was worse of course when this started and has been dropping off, but still more of them than for other reasons. Of course that's just my experience here in the Chicago area, others will vary based on factors in their specific area.
