You can also get notifications through email if you want and turn off notifications for google voice. And if you have Android 6. 0+, there's a feature where you can lock the app with a password. It's in settings Security App Locker. If you want more privacy, there's a popular android launcher called "Nova Launcher" where you can even hide the app from your phone so it won't show up in your drawer.
