I must add that I was an avid Craigslist monger a few years ago and 'got my tee shirt'. Unfortunately, it was a hard lesson. However, a very good learning experience. I remember the add excluded black men and requested only 'executive' type.
This topic was discussed before, IIRC. My opinion (I've never worked anywhere near LE, but have a pretty good knowledge of discrimination laws) is that there is nothing unlawful about LEO putting that language in. They are not really "profiling," and do we really think that if a black guy responded and set up an appointment despite what the ad says, they wouldn't be just as happy to arrest him as a white guy? And who's going to complain? Is some black guy really going to argue that he had just as much a right as the white dudes to get busted in a sting operation?
On the other hand, it seems to me like LEO would not put that language in for the very reason that it would tend to limit the universe of potential sting victims. Seems like they would want to arrest as many people as their deceptive sting could drag in, so why tell all the black guys not to call? The last part is nothing but guessing, of course, but it seems like common sense. I think they can do it, but don't see why they ever would.
