I have a very Asian look to me and just played the "strong, silent type" when speaking. Of course, by my second trip I had gotten a few tattoos and that didn't fly at some places. It wasn't a big loss to me, there are plenty of ways to get sex in Japan besides the soaplands. Heading to a club and picking up drunk girls after the trains stopped running was something I did a few times. Pay for a short stay at a love hotel, have sex, wash up, maybe exchange numbers, go get breakfast at Yoshinoya and the train would be running again. I wouldn't ask a hotel concierge about sex services, since the culture there isn't particularly open about things like that. If you don't speak Japanese at all, just go bold and balls out. I spoke English most places I went and if a cute Japanese girl replied in English, I would hit on her and ask her to show me around. Not like I would ever see them again if I got shot down. Well I went to Japan and had a great time touring and mongering (whenever I could! There were failures and successes that I wanted to report on.
