How can you say it's a bit of a stretch that race was the driving factor with this? He killed 7 Asians out of 8 people total that's a pretty clear pattern. Why is it easier to say that this complete stranger was a religious nut than a racist? You do know the two can both be true at the same time, right? You also realize that there are a ton of religious nuts that don't go around murdering multiple Asian women in a single day. Since 99% of massage parlors are Asian I'm heavily leaning towards random incident.
It's not that implausible to view this as not truly being a racially motivated crime.
If it was truly racial against asians he could have gone to Chinatown and wiped the place out killing dozens or hundreds of asian people. Instead he went to massage parlors. Why?
He was a sex addict and struggling with it. He frequented massage parlors. He relapsed at massage parlors. He was a customer at 2 of the places he attacked. Some have a hallway leading to the room left and right with no door to get past, and some have a cheap door and lock that can easily be kicked in. Once past that the girls and customers are in the massage rooms, TV room, the washroom, shower, sauna or kitchen. It remains so right up to the back door, which is usually a strong security door. If you're in a room and you hear a gunshot and you run into the hallway, what will you find? A narrow kill zone.

Asian granny of around 75 is waiting for the light to change so she can cross the street. The prosecutor is claiming that the level of offenses went down during an experimental period during the pandemic. Kim Foxx was quoted in the story. She is said to be exploring Baltimore results to see if she should do the same thing in Cook County. Could we actually be looking at arrest free mongering in Cook County?

Obviously, I'm on this board for the hobby, but not prosecuting low level street crimes is a mistake. The success of what is known as a broken windows model of policing has often been tied to a strong economy (e. G, it was easy for Bratton and Giuiliani to see success with their strategies in NYC because the economy was strong and Manahattan had become a rich person's paradise). However, that model of policing makes sense more generally. Chicago would become chaos. If Foxx is serious then she should work with officials to legalize prostitution or work with police to create specific zones where street level crimes wouldn't be prosecuted (red light district or Hamsterdam in The Wire).

It makes it harder to explain to your spouse, creates a hassle to get to your job the next day without it, and in some cases they are requiring the spouse to go and get the car from the impound. It also makes it looks like they are doing something, when in reality they could probably plan it over donuts on a coffee break.
When politicians get truly desperate (especially in IL), they will consider legalizing and taxing it (much like weed). Until then it will be like the wild west. Canada does it correctly. You said itself in your title- "low hanging fruit". Drug gangs have practically taken over entire neighborhoods in Chicago and the suburbs. Murders are up. Car hijackings are everywhere. More than a few communities are talking about dumping their police departments or cutting funding. Prostitution arrests makes them look like they are doing something useful. The arrests for the most part are not violent. There is very little political opposition. Conservatives think it is an immoral practice that is a sin and liberals claim that it dehumanizes and abuses women. The cops claim it encourages rampant drug use which is why many girls are on the streets. I wrote on the streetwalker page about Baltimore and New York decriminalizing prostitution. But that is only for the girls, not us. Besides, more than one girl has related stories to me about cops she services. So it seems to me that the cops want to be seen as doing their jobs and prostitution is just too easy a target.

First it was medicinal in only a couple states. Then more states. Then most states.

The process of decriminalization has begun. In 10 to 15 years it will be legal everywhere in the US. But between now and then is a slow and laborious process of going state to state and the first wave will only be decriminalization on behalf of the providers.
