Yes, I think it's standard practice to ask your name and then call the room. Although, I have done business strictly over cell phone and no call to the room was necessary. So, I guess it goes both ways depending on the provider.

Damn this shit happened to me in Vegas years ago my first time trying to monger in Vegas. I did not know about this site or others. I called an agency from one of the papers they hand out on the strip. You know the rest just like the other posts.

I've just about decided to give up on Vegas. I usually have terrible luck here. Over the years, I've connected with 2 CG, which were nice and picked up one SW, that was very nice. The majority of the time, though, it's a run-around. This trip was something like this.
1. Decided to call Vanessa (BP post 2602210) who had a very recent ad on BP and good reviews. One number was disconnected and the other was for someone with another name and the mailbox was full.

I opened the door and she walked out. She came back in about 15 minutes and started knocking on the door and then called (I ignored her). She left for about a half hour and returned and did it again. Only rarely have I seen a better price through an online agent than directly at the hotel. But since the hotels are running WAY below full, you've got a good shot at getting a room upgrade, or free stuff thrown in; could be casino credit, dining credit, spa credit, or a free night. I'd just deal with the hotel; call them and don't be afraid to ask nicely.

Go to the Web sites for the places you might want to stay, and register. Most have guest books, player's card signup, etc.--some way to get you in their system.

You'll get regular offers via email--some pretty good. In the last week, I've been offered the Monte Carlo and Luxor for $38-40/night, and the MGM for $55.

The hot summer months are coming up, slow times, so plenty of good offers should be coming.

If you gamble when you visit, be sure to get a player's card and use it. That will generate additional/better offers.

You can also Google casino promo codes to look at listings of the promotions in effect right now. Most of them will work in the casino's booking system, even if the promo wasn't originally sent to you.

I don't like sites like Priceline for Vegas. A bid for 3-star south strip, for example, might get you Bally's, the Tropicana, or Hooter's. Big difference!

I agree with the others, maybe use Kayak or something to see what the range is, then go to the hotel's site to book. A lot of great hotel info over on cheapovegas dot com. Pretty funny too. Also, there's a link on there for a coupon book, the American Casino Guide. I never bought it, figured it was a ripoff, but as a downtown guy it turns out there's some great deals. I'm staying at the el cortez for two nights for $31, then the newly renovated Gold Spike for $7.77, thanks to the coupons.
