Masks are essentially statistically ineffective. The vaccine is obviously not going to end the virus, the vaccine does not produce sterilizing immunity. There will be more breakthrough cases, as is the case in Israel and the UK. It is coming here. The Texas democrats brought it right into Pelosi's chamber, which is fine with me.
The idea that red states are somehow to "blame" is silly.
I am a registered democrat and voted for neither of the old men on the ballot in 2020, because neither of them can handle the presidency or the virus. I have been proven correct.

Joe from Atlanta who is sitting next to you at the blackjack table is infected but not symptomatic yet. Now you're infected. Maybe you don't get sick but you're carrying the virus, or you only get "a little bit sick" a few days later. You come home and get a blowjob at your favorite mongering spot and neither of you were masked. Now your provider is infected, and so is everyone else she blows that day and for a few days after.
A little more than 60% of LA County is vaccinated, but that means that almost 40% isn't. It's the 40% that are ruining it for everyone else. And 99% of the people currently in the hospital because of the current spike are unvaccinated.

The variants didn't hop on a plane and come here. The viruses are mutating all the time. When a mutation occurs that makes the virus spread better, it takes over, in that local pool of viruses. That can happen any time any where. So, wherever delta was first *identified* doesn't matter. It is Darwinian evolution that will make it become the dominant strain all over the world. Because it is best at spreading through a population. Until it then mutates again, and some other variant takes over. Now that doesn't mean a lot, because so far, immunity against the earlier versions has held up. There is little reason to think that the virus will mutate to a form that is not susceptible to the immunity we're all getting.
