I only know survival Japanese. The last soap I visited in Yoshiwara, precovid, I went to one of the more popular ones called Dolce. I failed the language proficiency tests administered by the front desk guy. He asked me a series of questions in Japanese, and I failed miserably.
On the day I visited, they had a roster of 20 or so all supposedly in their 20's, but due to my failed test, I was given a choice of two (neither looked appealing). Long story short I paid at least 30,000 yen, plus the gaijin inconvenience fee to the provider. I got the distinct impression that she wasn't happy having to service a foreigner. It was a message from management letting her know where she was on the rosters pecking order.
From then on I went to the places specializing in servicing foreigners so the prices were substantially higher.
I was under the impression that the lower costs girls were only available to the locals, not we outsiders. Plus you had to speak Japanese at a high level.
