Part of that has to do with being careful and trying not to get into a situation that puts you at risk. Still, LV can be dangerous when you don't expect it to be. I live in a quiet neighborhood that no one would consider dangerous. I run a lot to keep in shape. When it gets hot out I run very early in the morning. On one occasion I was out running and had three guys, one with a gun that he pointed at me, stop me. Needless to say, I was surprised, but turned livid since they stopped me during an activity I really enjoy doing. I looked at the guy with the gun and asked if he was fucking crazy, and did he really think I had anything on me that was worth anything. I kept slowly backing away to keep anyone from putting hands on me, and they finally decided to just leave. I reported it to the police and they said they had other reports that these same 3 had stopped some people while they were out walking and robbed them.

The irony is that I've ran in a number of poor, seedy areas that are considered dangerous here and across the US and never had a problem. Hell I've even had homeless people offer me water.

Over 35 k crimes each year. That come out to over 40 people per 1,000 people per Metro.

Las Vegas has seen an increase in violent crime by 63% since 2021 per the DOJ.

LV is ranked as the 6th most dangerous city in the nation per security gauge.

I bought a penthouse adjacent to the Strip in 2018. It was great. But when COVID hit things changed. Crime spiked, and so did beggars and panhandlers. Post COVID the evening news was full of stories about shootings, stabbings, robberies and other violent crimes, mostly in areas adjacent to the Strip and Downtown. I also noticed a big increase in homeless folks in areas adjacent to the Strip (probably because resort security and the police were pushing them out of the resort and casino areas). By late 2020 or early 2021 I started to notice that Smiths had armed security at the entrance. And many, many times I was panhandled in the parking lot. I remember going to get my car smog-checked over on Sahara and the tester was an early 20's guy with 2 long-barreled pistols holstered around his waist. So, I started shopping up in Summerlin thinking it was a 'better crowd' but by 2023 the Smiths out there also had armed security. That was the final straw for me.

Since then I sold my place there. I miss the fantastic views and daily access to beautiful young women, but I feel a lot safer. I still watch the LV local news and still see the rise in violent crime. For now, I'm back to flying in for the weekend, getting picked up by the Palazzo SUV and delivered to the resort, and staying out of the non-Strip properties. Just feels safer to me.

I don't have the view but at least Smiths doesn't have armed guards out front.

Actually my building and our community was incredibly safe and secure, and had by far the best views in Vegas. But when you went outside of the gates you were near some tough spots.
