I am neither a half-wit, a moron, nor stupid. Your point about the "let's see you do better" defense is appropriate in some circumstances but not in others. There are at least two exceptions as to when the defense is appropriate. The first is when the activity criticized takes no special skills. Using your example of a coach, a CEO, a doctor, a judge, an athlete, or the president, these are all activities that take special skills. Very few people have them so the "let's see you do better" defense may not be appropriate because everyone knows that you don't have the skills. It becomes a meaningless defense. But taking pictures doesn't require any special skills. Anyone can do it. Just point the camera and push that little button called the shutter. The second example of when it is appropriate is when the criticism is communicated directly to and is a personal attack on the person. If you are in a crowded bar and say that Bruce Springsteen is a lousy singer, you might start an argument but no one in the crowd is likely to ask you to do better. On the other hand, if you are at a concert and see Springsteen and go up to him and say to his face that you are a lousy singer, he may just hand you his guitar and tell you go on stage and do it better. In the present case, Sam communicated his criticism both personally and directly to me. He now seems to say that he was just making innocent remarks and wanted to see something different. But he called my photographs "gross" and "a turn off. " I think most guys would take that as a personal insult. I think I am entitled to defend myself anyway I deem appropriate. As I said before, anyone can take photographs. My "let's see you do better" defense was both invited and properly invoked. In this particular case I am focusing on the man, because it is the man who is attacking. Besides, this is the Octagon. Where else can I call someone a Shithead and not be placed on moderation. BTW, not every girl can give a good blowjob. It takes some skills. :D
