Tell them what you want and what you are willing to do for an allowence. If they balk, move on. If you have trouble spotting the pros or want to be pros, they will be focused on maximizing money and minimizing time spent with you.

I like alternative colored hair, tattoos, etc. I have a fondness for hippies and goths. For me, the people that I'm most interested in have absolutely no interest in me. No self-respecting hippie / goth would bother with a pretty conservative black guy. The hippies are generally happy with whatever I give them; the goths are generally stuck on themselves. All that being said, in the 2-3 years that I've been doing the SB thing, I've discussed pricing with about 40-50% of the people before they fucked me. When we meet, it is an actual date. I'm looking more for someone that pretends to give a fuck about me, makes me smile when I'm having a bad day and that is much more attractive than I normally could get without paying. I don't mind spending more for that. I do have my limits, but for me, $250-300 is usually the starting point, with $400-450 being the absolute maximum. Of course, I spend money on them outside of our meetings. I buy them inexpensive gifts, help them with a bill or two if they need it and of course take them out when we meet up (oh, I pay for the hotel room, someone mentioned that to me recently). Escorts, never. Sugar, yes. Once I can trust them enough, I've invited them over. It makes them feel fully trusted and then they feel comfortable inviting friends, trying new things, sleeping over multiple days, whatever. I don't leave my wallet out or expensive things around, but I let them borrow seemingly expensive things that I can easily replace. Also, I usually know where they live by then too. If things go well, they get comfortable and ask for less, but that depends on how comfortable you live as well. I don't negotiate, and that helps keep the pros away. Initial meet, etc is all done out and away from my neighborhood. I'm fortunate that so far I've been able to spot flakes, druggies, and pros and avoid drama.
