Haven't recently visited New York New York, so I can't comment on it, but I definitely do like Tokyo Relaxation. It's possible she could have been at least partly correct. When the news of the VT incident first broke, some people were mentioning the possibility of a terrorist action. It's possible that at the first mention of that, the police (or some other agency such as FBI, DEA, ICE) felt they should show they were on their toes and not just eating donuts. It was being reported quite early on that the perp was asian. Although the media reported at first that he was Chinese and from Shanghai.
As we know, of all the people in this society doing things which are (to one degree or another) illegal, the AMPs present one of the easiest targets. Most people know what goes on there. They are a stationary target, you don't have to go looking for AMP workers. So when the police or another of the far too numerous LE agencies in this society need to show they are earning all of that tax money they get and spend, the AMPs are an easy target.
As a business which pays little or no taxes on most of the money that changes hands, the average AMP can be a money maker. But there is a great deal of risk in this industry as well. So mamasan's assertion that when something bad happens, the AMPs are targeted may not have been so far out at all.
