But in 2008, under pressure from 40 state attorneys general, Craigslist began requiring posters to provide a working phone number and pay a fee for placing an ad in what is now the adult services section. Several months later, Craigslist adopted a manual screening process in which postings are reviewed before publishing.
State officials believe Craigslist is still not doing enough to stop illegal ads from appearing.
The company said Saturday it would issue a statement on the matter, though it didn't say when.
Connecticut Attorney General Richard Blumenthal, one of the 17 attorneys general who pressed for the change, said in a statement that he welcomed the change and was trying to verify Craigslist's official policy going forward.
In an Aug. 24 letter, the state attorneys general said Craigslist should remove the section because it couldn't adequately block potentially illegal ads promoting prostitution and child trafficking.
Authorities point to the case of 24-year-old Philip Markoff as a prime example of the dangers posed by Craigslist services. The former medical student was accused of killing a masseuse he met through the hugely popular classified advertising site, which was founded by Craig Newmark. Markoff committed suicide in the Boston jail where he was awaiting trial.
Craigslist's adult services section carried ads for everything from personal massages to a night's companionship, which critics say veered into prostitution.
Craigslist's CEO Jim Buckmaster said in a May blog posting that the company's ads were no worse than those published by the alternative newspaper chain Village Voice Media. He cited one explicit ad which included the phrase: "anything goes $90."

Seems though the news has nothing to report on since they have run this story nearly a dozen times this weekend!
It's the only thing to report since they discovered that the craigslist adult section was the root of all crime in America. Now that all the crime has been rooted out and destroyed the mainstream media can only report on bad things or on how wonderful our glorious leader is, so that that leaves them nothing to do except rerun old reports.

Well Att Gen Rich Blumy and others got their wish and as we all know CL put the Censored word on the Adults section. Now they are acting upset at being mocked by CL with the Censored word. I hope somebody files a lawsuit at their illegal coercive actions. He has also been known to write fake Craiglist ads in hopes of getting the personal information of those who responded.
He has stalked and terrorized providers, going as far as calling one in her hotel room, and attempting to terrorize her with a "voice changer." We think he was most likely staking out hotel parking lots in Stamford looking for out of state license plates.
His TER member name is jaysun23456. He also uses this alias on XXXXXX, Sip-Sap (He is most likely our Sip-Sap culprit as well), and among other hobby related websites.
Jaysun23456, ej2008, and ejrei appear to be his main aliases on dating websites and other websites as well. So far, he has used his same user names as Yahoo Email addresses almost exclusively.
Although we never post real names on our site, since this person has a criminal record that is extremely relevant to provider safety, we urge all CT providers and those traveling to CT to contact us for more details about this individual. We will also be sending out a link to this post to all providers registered on our site.
Unfortunately, although the most serious, this is not the only case of people trying to ‘out’ people, or threatening providers. We will continue to do what we can to make sure everyone is as safe as possible and that such people are confronted and removed from the site.
Staying silent and refusing to help in cases like this only aids the ‘bad guys’. You could be the next victim!
