IMHO, that is essentially a foolproof way of avoiding any possible stings and it is better to miss out on the chance to discover someone new that is good than risk getting caught up in a sting (which would be VERY VERY bad).

Of course, not all new advertisers are LEO stings and avoiding new ads is not so effective a screen for the other major risk we face (non-LEO's who are scammers or other rip-offs). LEO ads may briefly come and go but some scammers have ads running for months or even years. OTOH, even with those, the longer ads (or variations with perhaps different names and numbers but with the same photos or other telltale common aspects) have run, the more likely that someone will have posted negative reviews warning others. Longer running ads are just so much safer in general.
