I have had more than enough of my share of scammers. We arranged to meet for 4. She came to hotel, asked me for the money. She put money in her pocket. Asked if I have latex free protection. When I showed it to her, she said it was not latex free, she would get it from her car. I told her to leave the money and she could get it. She started walking out of door, she said I tried to put my hands on her and she's recording everything. I let her get out. I saw someone was waiting outside in the car and they drove off. She called me saying she was so scared that I tried to hit her. I didn't even touch her.

So, if they sense that you're a pushover or inexperienced, then they will definitely try to take advantage. It's really no different from parenting. There's a lot you can sense from the interaction before you even decide to meet. And then how you structure the meeting has a lot to do with success or failure of the meeting. I've been through my set of bad experiences and have the scars to prove it. Any monger on this forum who talks down to you and suggests that it was your fault is just being arrogant. Anyone who has mongered has had both good and bad experiences. Experience does matter. That's how you learn. You're not at an Apple store at the mall where everyone gets the same deal. This is the unregulated world. You have to fend for yourself. Finally, not everyone is cut out for this. So, sometimes you have to come to terms with your limitations and quit this lifestyle and choose a different path like a relationship with one trusted person. But even then, as we know, how well do you ever really know the person you're with? Life isn't easy.

It's not that simple. It's more nuanced than that. She was already in the room and threatening to scream and frame him and what not. There are many other precautions that should have been taken. If he had met her at a public setting first (or at least in the parking lot), he could have seen the vibe. Most scammers will not smile and will not be friendly because they are scheming inside. Also, he would have noticed that she has a driver. These are things you learn from experience. If they seem in a rush or overly aggressive, you should just make an excuse and bail. Never make it obvious that you're bailing because the true scammers will just double up on you and chase you to your car. You have to find a way to dodge them and make your escape. No one is born with these instincts. I'm sure you've been scammed a few times, although I doubt you will ever admit it because you like to pose here as mister know it all.

Don't place too much importance on any one event. In the long term it should render a bell curve of sorts. Two extreme ends with most lying in the middle as good providers. I don't think that Seeking girls and hotels are a good match. It indicates the "type" of girl, the type of arrangement, moreover. Not promising IMO. Just as charging for meet and greets. The arrangement set up can inform you about the girl and her desirability. M & Gs are an immediate non starter, easy peasy, as it shows entitlement and poor form.
Do the best you can. Sometimes the only way to learn is to get burned, and not just once. Try to apply what you've learned, try to use your big head a little more a la DC.
Quitting? Sometimes you quit mongering, sometimes it quits you when you can see its negatives from an objective vantage point, and you enjoy a break from it with a non pro.
We are fortunate to not suffer celibacy as a life sentence.
I get why many don't pay up front even though I did and believe it is the right thing to do. Looking back, it was the outlying cases when I got burned. Long game.

' The problem was that he met up with a criminal scammer / robber in a venue where he could be robbed somewhat easily.
If better pre-screening could have weeded her out entirely and he'd never met her, that would have mitigated the risk entirely. Without reading the chat logs we don't know if he ignored red flags, etc.
If a meet and greet outside of a hotel room could have weeded her out such that they'd never get to a room, we'll never know that either. Our experiences tell us it well could have, although some of these criminals / scammers are quite good and can fake it there.
But his fate was sealed before the hotel room closed with the 2 of them inside of it; that's for sure.
Thanks for kind words. I posted this so people are aware of these bad actors. I'm not upset about harsh words. I'm going to learn from these experiences. I've had so many more successful connections than failures on SA. It is a numbers game for sure.
