Thanks for your service
I'm far from a radical leftist -- in fact I'm a retired Air Force officer, but let me offer another perspective of the issue.
In Great Britain, they have largely eliminated unlicensed guns from the general population. You can own a gun, and several of my relatives do, but it must be identified, registered, and controlled by the owner. And yes, they also have crazies running around, but due to the lack of readily available guns, they generally attack with knives, sometimes wounding one or two people before they are subdued. Here on the other hand, a deranged person can easily kill a dozen or more people in a matter of seconds. As their acts are generally erratic at best, there is no way to tell where the next one will strike. I do no wish for me or my family to in the next mass shooting.
The Second Amendment supporters will tell you loud and clear that it says." The right to keep and bear arms. " while completely ignoring the first part about ". A well-regulated militia. " We have a well-regulated militia in the Reserves and the National Guard. You are free to join them.
That being said, I have an alternative plan that protects your right to own as many guns as you want, while increasing the safety of the public. We need to have every legal gun in this country registered my its owner who will then become responsible for its security and care. Anyone then found with an unregistered gun, whether in the process of committing a crime or not will have the gun confiscated and destroyed. If in fact the gun was being used in a crime, the punishments must be severe. Severe enough to seriously make one think twice before using one. This will take some time to percolate through society but the end result is well worth the effort.
The Second Amendment never envisioned weapons that could expend hundreds of rounds a minute. It was poorly written in the first place. It is long past time for revision.
I hope that happens before a member of my family, or yours, is needlessly killed by a person wielding a weapon that has no legitimate place in a peaceful society.
I hear you, and I definitely respect your post.
Just remember that guns do NOT kill, it is the people who choose use the guns for good or evil.
I actually hate how things are in the UK, I'm terrified of being stabbed up. "shanked" as they call it out there. The type of violet crimes they have are heinous and nasty. There are also people who make guns from scratch in the UK, called a "one pop. ".
Furthermore, good convo and thanks for your service to this great country.
I actually hate how things are in the UK, I'm terrified of being stabbed up.
Let me understand. You are afraid of being stabbed in the UK but not of being shot in the US where your chances of that happening are about 100 times greater?
That makes no sense.

Stabbing
Let me understand. You are afraid of being stabbed in the UK but not of being shot in the US where your chances of that happening are about 100 times greater?
That makes no sense.
You obviously have never been to the UK and watched someone get nabbed into an alley and stabbed to death, and nobody including the cops even know it happened until the killer is long gone, at least guns people can hear, and they report it, much easier to catch a shooter than a stabber.

Same all over. Animals need to be suppressed, however it may be done. If you're not with it, you're against it.
Here is an Old Enlisted Sailor's take. I was fortunate to work in the UK both in and out of the Navy. I also spent a a couple years in Muslim Countries. The UK has more than its fair share of Muslims. The Koran instructs believers to take their dagger and stab the infidel.
Just might account for many stabbing.

But no, I have never watched someone get stabbed there as it is a rare occurrence. In 2019 there were 249 deaths by stabbing in the UK compared to a paltry 15,292 shot to death in the US. I know where I feel saver.
And to declare that it is better to have 50 people killed with an AR-15 than one with a knife because the sound of gunfire helps the police catch the killer is possibly the most specious argument ever made.
If you are going to champion a system that allows for gun violence you need to come up with a better reason than that guns are noisy.
Really!

That makes no sense.
I understand your point of view. But I don't like blades or sharp objects.
I can't image having my intestines sliced and diced up, and holding my stomach while my guts fall out. That's really heinous and nasty.
It sounds crazy, but yes. I'd rather be SHOT in america. A bullet could miss, or just graze you, or end up lodged somewhere non-lethal. Stabbings are almost always lethal.
If I had a choice, just shoot me. Don't stab me to death.

A couple of things
First, you have it all wrong Parrot Scope!
There are no radical leftists, (really, do you think so-called liberals or progressives translates to radical leftist? It doesn't. In fact, when people are surveyed on the issues without categorizing issues as left or right, 70% identify with "liberal values". Next, nobody wants to repeal the second amendment. That comes from the propaganda that you call news.
ARG.
Save our guns!
Yes. Most of the people riding gung-ho and towing their party lines are ignoring and important issue.
Protect our second amendment rights!
Joe Biden and Kamal Harris want the repeal the 2nd amendment and take legal guns from the hands of benevolent law-abiding citizens.
Firearms are NOT to blame, we do NOT need gun control. WE NEED PEOPLE CONTROL / PSYCHO CONTROL.
Bad guys will ALWAYS have access to firearms. It is important that GOOD guys have guns to defend themselves and equal the playing field.
This is one of the major topics NO ONE in this thread is discussing.
I am not a member of the NRA BTW. But I know the importance of gun ownership. I carry on a daily basis, and need protection when I'm out mongering..
People hear and see it but yet no one knows nothing. I'd much rather get jacked in an alley with a knife then a gun, I can pick up anything and defend myself against a knife but you're just shit out of luck when it comes to a gun.
Herr Drumpf! Are you Putin us on?
I don't recall Bill Clinton ever calling Military Veterans, suckers and losers.
Then perhaps you should have heard some of Clinton's remarks at Camp Humphreys, Korea in the late '90's. The Secret Service agents I spoke to clandestinely were rolling their eyes. I was a Clinton fan until that time.
