Not quite true. The powers that be accomodate the zoning changes with no regard to the Master Plan that residents refer to when buying property. Blue Diamond Road area is a classic example. Now with the eminent domain laws changed to pacify the private sector, there is no safe quarter for the land across the street from your 2.5 acre home nor is there any for your 2.5 acre home. If they want it they can take it. Stipulation is if it's for the good of the community/city, etc. A little grease makes that work.
How did they (LAers) kill the economy? They inflated the SW rates and lowered the quality. Same thing with the housing. I'll use the housing example as an analogy in order to stay on-topic. A guy walks in to a strip joint with a wad of cash. The $40 girls who used to be happy get greedy and know they can nail a hundred from the "new guy" because he has 500 to spend in a $40 joint. The know better local still sees them as $40 girls and won't bite. The decent $40 girls are now replaced with $40 skanks (probably LA rejects :D) who see a big $40 market for them. Then the gap slowly closes and the $15 skanktoid thinks she should get $50 just because.
Same thing with housing. Cali folk sell their $500k home, come here and buy the $200k home and have a bundle of cash left over. Real estate people see this and start jacking it up. The next wave of Cali's come out and buy from the last wave. The out of staters have change left over and everyone's happy except for the "$40 customer". Which comprise the majority of locals. Not many locals can jump into a entry level home anymore.
It won't ever be a 200k/million market. It'll correct first. When we have no land. WHen people realize their 350k condo used to be $20/nite riding academy the year before. When the water becomes a big enough problem. When growth restrictions come into play.
What could happen is the low end service industry such as maids won't be able to afford to live here anymore and be forced to move. They have stepped up a bit in salary with the newer, bigger joints realizing how much they need people to change the sheets.
I know I'll be damned if I pay some broad $500 for maybe an hour of her acting. I used to dig driving the strip at nite looking for some good, low-cost action. Now it's jammed with those funny white plates that start with a 4 or a 5.
I don't consider any of this "bickering" - I consider it dialogue, albeit off-topic. Unless you can consider getting fucked over the same as getting laid. My POV is the same here as it is on the other side of the border. People start spending too much for too little then that becomes the norm.
One phrase I've picked up from the Cali forums (RE: MPs) is "Keep it real". Vegas tends to bring the "big shot" out of a lot of tourists. "Keep it real".

Sacraficing your 2.5 acre home for the good of the public - classic sell out by the powers that be in the name of your fellow Vegans.
If an LAer have to spend more and get less than in LA, he is forced to. If Vegas need them, be it to change the sheets, they got something to do and some spare money to spend, I don't blame them. Escort sucks more than LA, everybody is forced to find some low cost action, but there are too many of them jacking up the price. Even tourists know that but when they are not partying, they need some release and have to try their luck. Nobody wants that but that's life.
The girls are also very mobile. The go where they can get better price or more business - across the nation. Even if guys don't move to Vegas, girls will move to LA if they can get $100 for a SW.
You also can't neglect the contribution big cities like LA. The price for a pretty young Korean girl licking you all over and then Asian cowgirl you as if there's no tomorrow - $120 in a private MP. That's the price for at least 5 years and they get better and younger. There even better service that blow your mind off without cover but that's not as big in the news. Now the customers are not limited to Asians, but they have to pay a little extra. All other comparable service cannot set their price any higher to adjust for inflation or to track the housing or gas price. So the $40 MP's plus $100 tips never manage to jack up their price. SW hardly ever manage to get more than $100 for a quickie unless they are 19 year old 10/10 blonds (see my recent pictures). $100 for a quickie plus room anywhere from $20 to $60 doesn't make sense. If they have to pay more elsewhere they have my sympathies.
Here gardeners, professionals and multi-millionares often live in the same street, each brought their houses 5 to 10 years apart. Affordable housing is hard to come by, hence my $1000 plumbing bill, which I did it for less than $100 including tools. Correction may be in order but don't bank on it, it will pull everything down with it. The last time it took more than 10 painful years to get back to the same price. California already has to prove to have 20 years of enough water supply in order for new permits, but that didn't stop anything.

Visited Vegas last week, Sunday night thru Wednesday. Long time lurker on this board - living in the Midwest. Here are some of my observations.
Before I go into this, I'll say that I was unable to partake in any fun due to the group I was with. It was still amusing and insightful to observe things though for future reference.
Sunday night, about 11 pm, was approached by a blonde at the bottom of the walkway that heads from MGM to Tropicana. Probably about 22-25 yrs old, and looked used. Passed on that. Kept going, towards Excalibur and through it on my way down to the Luxor/Mandalay Bay passages. Saw a few attractive black girls right before the long Excalibur moving walkway area. Pretty sure they were working, as I got the look from one of them. Also in the very near vicinity were a couple of "gentlemen", shall we say, whom I'm sure were wishing their lady friends would make some acquaintences instead of loitering around and just looking good.
Once I got down to Luxor, I checked out each of the bar areas, and noticed plenty of talent near the Ra area, and the bar thats just adjacent to it. Again, more than a few pimps around too. Got a few nice looks from some pretty girls at slot machines in that area. One of the sweetest smiles a girl has given me in a long time was from a girl named Missy. She was a bit chubby, but had a pleasant manner and seemed nice enough. She said she was working on her own, and she was young too, just 23 and in from Fresno, and leaving the next day. Didn't get her contact info.
My next opportunity to explore came on Tuesday, as I made my way with a friend of mine up to Bellagio, Caesars, and Mirage. Between 9 and 11, I didn't see too much going on at Caesars, and Mirage might have had a few, but I didn't get a chance to really find out. Finally, at Bellagio, my buddy decides to play Casino War. At this point its about midnight, so I'm able to really scope things out. I spot this hot blonde with white pants and a turquoise top at a slot machine on the edge of a main walkway through the casino. I decide to just watch for a bit. She says "hi" to a couple of 40-ish guys dressed average, and they pass by. On this night, I'm decked out, so I figure she'd notice that and show me some interest. I walked past this chick 3 times, and she didn't give me one indication she'd want to have a conversation with me. So, I back off, and keep watching. She eventually gets up and walks over towards the cashier's box, and gets some guy's attention, and starts a conversation with him. It was definitely a first meeting type talk, and again, this guy is near 40. They begin to walk together, towards the Baccarat Bar, and she suddenly just turns around and goes the other way. The dude turns, looks at her walking away, and then if my lip reading skills are up to par, he says "good luck, *****".
Afterwards, I find a couple of girls at slots who give me the look, and I go over and talk to them. The cute one is Toni, from Brooklyn, who's pimp is watching the entire time. Her friend was butt ugly, and I didn't get her name. Told her I'd love a little company, but my rooming situation for the week was not cooperating. She seemed like fun though.
After this, I again see blondie, and again, I pass her by slowly, and she just looks up quickly from her machine, and looks away. What's the deal? I am not even 30, and I get carded for buying smokes, but I was dressed to the T that night. Is this normal to be ignored like that by high class Ho-s?
Wednesday night, hung out in the MGM, and it seemed very promising. Also, got back down to the Luxor, and again Club Ra area was a good hunting ground.
So in summary, Luxor, Bellagio, and MGM seemed like good spots. I did not make it to Rio or Hard Rock. Places that seemed quiet were NYNY, Excalibur (no surprise), and Paris(though I was only in there before 10pm). I didn't get to Venetian or Wynn.
I hope thats a worthwhile report. Question for anyone living in Vegas? One card dealer at Excalibur was saying that its incredibly easy to move to Vegas, get a job as a dealer, and within 6 months be working a a strip casino making 40K per year. Is it that easy?

40 K ain't shit in this town now. If you have lived here a few years before the housing market took over than yes. But LV is close to some parts of Cali now. Don't get me wrong, 40 is alright....if you have no other bills. But add a $1200-$2000 montly morgage for a house that has no land and you can knock on your neighbors door from your porch....to other debts you have. 40K uh uh
