First, it is really hard for a guy to get HIV, even unprotected...think of the anatomy ... you do the depoist. That said, it is stupid to go uncovered. I've never heard of HIV being passed from a BJ...something about saliva killing the virus.

Wrong, wrong, and wrong. It's not hard for a guy to become infected, the multiplicity of infection (M.O.I.) for HIV is really low. In comparison it is easier for a woman to become infected by an infected guy than a guy from an infected woman, BUT by no means is it hard.

Your last point about saliva is just flat out incorrect. There is nothing in saliva that will effectively kill the HIV virus in vivo (in a living being). There are lactoferrin derivatives that have been show to have antimicrobial activity in vitro (in a test tube). They are effective against bacteria but not really proven against viruses. Awesome breakdown. Not to turn this into a nerdfest but I thought MOI was ratio of bacteria to virus, like in a bacteriophage context. Too bad none of us know if we have homozygous CCR5 mutations. People with CCR5 mutations can't be infected because they lack the co-receptor for HIV-1 (only CD4+ receptor). Incidentally, these same people were also resistant to the Bubonic Plague.

Let the nerdfest begin. Yes you are right MOI is the ratio of bacteria to virus, but I always have used it interchangeably with infectious dose (Personal Qwirk). Yeah, the CCR5 mutants are essentially protected. There was a recent case where a HIV infected guy underwent a bone marrow transplant and they gave him marrow from a CCR5 mutant, and his viral load since has been ZERO. I'm thinking this will be the way to go in the future when they can bring the cost down and increase the feasibility of transplants for these purposes.

Well my brother died of HIV ... just telling you what the HIV specialists told me. Basically, it isn't impossible, but the percentage chance with oral and hetero sex is pretty low.
